I was wondering if anyone has been able to change their gender marker on their driver's license in the state of georgia.  I hear that hrt isn't enough and they require surgery.  Anyone know if top surgery will suffice or is lower surgery also required?

I'm up in Ohio but if they do require surgery then you probably just need a letter stating that you had 'gender surgery'. It does not have to be a specific letter and the BMV can't be asking about your medical history as that would violate HIPAA.

I am no expert. I haven't been through it. However, when I looked it up the last time, they required bottom surgery to change gender marker.

I was born in a different state and can get my birth certificate changed without surgery.  I wonder if when I get it changed I can somehow use that to change my drivers licence without surgery.  It would be nice.

Ahh, ok. It would seem I would have to find a Dr willing to write the letter though.

"In order to update the gender marker on a Georgia ID, the applicant must submit either a court order or a physician's letter certifying the gender change. The letter or court order shall state the person's name, date of birth, date of gender reassignment operation, and other identifying information."

The doctor that does your hormones can write a vague letter saying that you completed gender reassignment on the day you started T.

There os a website the covers all the specific details of gender marker changes i a multitude of states with georgia being one of them. I am from georgia. The process for this state is first has to be done on birth certificate, next on SS card, then to DMV with both of those new documents, and at least 2 letters certifying you have had "irreversible gender reassignment surgery" from one of the doctors who did the surgery and then another involved in your medical history. It also states you will need doctors contact info in case they want to verify(which is highly unlikely).

Once you have your birth certificate corrected, it should be accepted anywhere in US, no?

Thank you! I was actually really curious about this.
I am originally from Alabama and I've been living in GA for over a year, but based on lots of things I haven't switched to being an official GA resident...In addition since I am beginning my transition I wanted to just go ahead and wait until I've started T, submitted for name change, stuff like that....
I didn't think that a letter stating your hormones would work. >
