According to this link the two North American countries would be open to having a Transgender person lead their most powerful office. 70% of Canadians would be open to voting for a Trans Prime Minister and 50% of Americans would be open to voting for a Trans President.

This is amazing news and shows how much we as a community are being accepted and recognized as real people!

Most telling however is the Canadian respondents. More Canadians seem to be more open to having a Transgender Prime Minister then a Christian evangelical Prime Minister (69%-65%)

never rule it out. Not that long ago a black US president or a female prime minister wouldve been seen as utterly ridiculous.

Well, we do have a lesbian Premier of Ontario in Kathleen Wynne.  As for the other, we had more than enough of it with Harper, a fundamentalist Christian, who tried to shut down any science that contradicted his beliefs.

Hmmmmmm....call me dubious. Maybe in your life, Ash. Not mine. If it happens when I'm alive tthere will be  glaciers in hell and pigs on the wing. We can't even get the most qualified woman ever elected because she has a vagina. And to add insult to injury, it was women that made sure ehe wasn't elected. We're a long ways away from that kind of clarity of thought. On the other hand, at least your present boss is a cutie.

I suppose you all have a point. It is still intresting however. Im sure Canada will elected a trans person someday maybe even soon (a couple of decades). The US may be a bit longer of a wait. It remains to be seen. Still, I am confident American will elect a Trans Prez long before Nigeria ever does.

Or perhaps it could have been that the people not voting for this woman were voting against the establishment for completely different reasons. Not because they hate people with vaginas.

There are women leaders, chancellors and prime ministers in the world already. There was the female leader of South Korea, Germany, UK, Pakistan etc. The world is apparently not adverse to a politician with a vagina. I think it has more to do with other things, like policies. And that's as it should be; I would not want to see someone elected based on their sex organs or gender or trans status for the sake of it.

If a country has a primeminister is usually has a king or queen as a head of state.
These days these roles are mostly cermonial and give power to the preminister to run the country.

Presidents have no such monarchy and thus the president is head of state

The flip side is, why would gender be at the top of anyone's list in picking or excluding gender, race, ethnicity etc? It's tribal thinking at its worst. Hillary lost because of herself. She's not likable and is two faced, out for herself. Most politicians suffer from the latter. It also didn't help she alienated a block of voters by conspiring with the party to screw Bernie. She made plenty of mistakes and her negative behavior and deeds couldn't be hidden. Yeah she's smart, but in politics that isn't enough. There many other women that are better choices and better people. Maybe it's time to promote someone that doesn't have a sense of entitlement and the cemetery full off skeletons. We did try, but it was subverted, but let's try again.

     Ameica is a Misogynistic, Racist land full of ignorant and selfish people. No one is more depessed about that than I am.

America may not be perfect, but it's probably better to be there than many/most other parts of the world right now as a female or a trans individual. I for one would rather be there because it protects free speech far better than my own country (UK), which apparently seems bent on doing away with it.

I'm really not sure where you can go and not find a lot of ignorant or selfish people. Is there such a place where most people are enlightened and selfless?

I am not here to bash any country. My whole thing is atleast most Americans seem to be open to a trans President, though that may not happen for many years. Canadians seem to be far more progressive on Trans issues then most countries in the world. Ireland may even have a trans leader too, they have a gay leader and no one complains that he is gay, in fact Ireland voted for gay marriage in a landslide. Who knows where we will be in 10 to 20 years

I don't think Ireland has gay marriage. We do in UK though.

Edit: oh, perhaps it does. Oddly enough I was talking to a friend from Ireland earlier this afternoon who said gays couldn't get married where he was and abortion was still illegal. Is it regional I wonder.

Edit edit: Asked him to clarify - right, gay marriage legal in Republic of Ireland, but not in Northern Ireland where it has been continually blocked by the DUP. I thought he was in the Republic at one point, not NI, my bad. So UK does have gay marriage except in one area. And so does Eire. The reasons for blocking it appear to be quite tribal and petty rather than staunchly religious. Maybe someday they'll come round.

I most certianly hope so. That seems messed that the rest of UK and Ireland (republic) are very much on board whereas NI is still spinning in old times.

Yeah.    Guess where I have to go to get my birth certificate changed?  The procedures right now will allow me to do it, after the mandatory 2-year RLE required in the UK, but now that the DUP has a voice in the UK parliament, I'm sure they will want to roll back the calendar a century or two.
