Told my dentist this morning

Went to the dentist this morning for routine checkup and cleaning, male mode before heading to work.  (I am MTF but not full time).  I have an awesome dentist and don't expect any problems there.  Everyone knows me well, although they don't know everything about me.  I briefly considered telling them and then thought, no need to.  I'll probably be full time before my next 6-month checkup, no need to announce, just show up.  Teeth are teeth.

Duh.  What was I thinking?  After I got into the comfy torture chair the assistant's first question was - any changes to your health, any new prescriptions?

I was momentarily startled when I realized this is important.  I told her yes, I started estrogen two days ago, I am transitioning male to female.  Her reaction was perfect, she acknowledged and noted it just like any other medically relevant information.  She asked for the specific dosage - her name isn't Susan so I told her.  ;)  And then she smiled and said "right on!" and we had a great talk (when I could talk).  Then the dentist came in (we are similar age), asked "Hey what's new?" and I told him I'm remodeling two things: my condominium, and me.  Other than that, no big deal.  He was visibly shocked for about two seconds, and then said wow - that is GREAT!!  and I sincerely believe he meant it.  He said I am their second transgender patient.

For several decades I've had problems grinding my teeth - the combination of a very strong jaw and stress.  We had a brief discussion how I am looking forward to HRT changing the muscles in that part of my jaw.

Life is good.

So you are saying you put the 'bite on em' and left  an 'impression.' I'm glad they didn't brush you off. Was it your regular  doc, or was someone filling in? If they were, I hope you drilled them for information, picking them clean.

Moni the surgeon definitely did not remove your wit.  If they had, I would be Crest fallen.

And on the topic of dentistry I did tell them I have considered a tattoo on my gum line.  2 3 2, 3 2 3, 3 3 2, 3 3 3,...
