Here's an interesting thing... https://www.careerplanner.com/MB2/TypeInPopulation.cfm

So while this is hardly a scientific study of course, and we are a skewed sample to begin with hanging out on an online forum taking random personality tests, we seem to be overwhelmingly consisting of rarer types, with the most common type having a frequency of zero in the sample at the moment. This means nothing, but it's anecdotally interesting.
It is interesting. The problem with tests is that they're limited in dimension. I suppose one could take several tests. To get a better picture, but then there is some interpretation. Not too many ISTP's here. Go harry Tuttle and The Fonz!

I just re-did the test, using the test linked in the first post.  (I used a different one before.)  This one shows me as ISFP-T.  All my scores were in the 50-60% range, so kind of indeterminate, except Feeling was 68%.  I was INFP the last time.

If everyone will forgive my putting my ENTP hat on, it seems hopelessly reductionistic to categorize all people into 16 (or on this version, 32) non-overlapping categories.

I'm not saying that elements of the descriptions can't ring true, even very true. Heaven knows, ENTP describes the kind of person I aspire to be.

But in Myers-Briggs, we're using four independent binary variables to slice ourselves into sixteen segments. That is, whether you're an E is supposed to have nothing to do with whether you're an N, and neither should have any sway over whether you're a T or a P.

But if they were really independent, every segment should be equally common. Yet they aren't. There's a lot more E/ISFJ than E/INTP That kinda suggests that Myers and Briggs already had their categories defined before they set out.

Well, shoot. If M-B already had it all set up, it's not like they were doing anything but intuitive guesswork at best, and at one's most cynical, one might accuse them of simply developing something that would sell a lot of books.

And anyway, people are complicated. Sometimes I'm E, sometimes I. Sometimes S, sometimes N. Depends on my mood, the situation, my company, what's appropriate, the information I have, and so forth. I can be ENTP, but I can be all the others, too.

So me, I enjoy tests like Myers-Briggs. They're fun, and to the extent they cause me some introspection, that can't but be all to the good. Yet I can't take them all that seriously, and I'm certainly not going to imagine that I'm only one type.

It's been a busy week so I haven't been on much, sorry.
The house is clean now and the stuffing is done, I can relax a little. 😁 Until 5:30 tomorrow morning that is. I am completely ready for the company tomorrow though so...
The turkey needs to go....
No Michelle, it's going to be fine. Lol 😆
Actually I love cooking and company so I haven't been this happy in a long time, just busy.

Back to the thread.

The test and descriptions ARE vague to an extent. It is NOT good science but our lives are not lived in a test tube or an equation written in chalk on a blackboard are they. It is interesting and fun plus a little more. For myself most every other description is nothing like me and the one I fit in is almost spot on. It is not who I am but feeling like I was part of an alien race my whole life it felt, well it felt just like 4 years ago when I learned what transsexual was and I knew that I was not alone. So it's not to change lives, just a curiosity.

I would like to point out though that because it is not perfect is no reason to believe that it is not useful. Fenugreek has been used for thousands of years for new mothers but I had a friend argue that it is useless as a supplement for me or anyone. Interesting. I wonder if 2,000 Years ago they knew that the sapogenins in it were not enough to be helpful.
Astrology, not horoscopes, is something that people laugh at me about a lot when the subject comes up. I know and I agree. Come on, who would believe that just because a heavenly body moves the larges surface of the planet back and forth twice every day it would have any effect at all on a tiny fetus sloshing around in its little mommy baby's tank?

😊 I find it interesting is all. This is a very small group but I think that it is amazing that % wise it is almost reverse of the general population. There is nothing tangible to be taken away from the poll just as there is nothing tangible to be taken away from the test, not really. I was expecting a difference but not one of that size, just one more thing for me to think about.

Thank you all so much for taking the test and participating in the poll. I hope that you have all found it as fun and interesting as I have. 😊

The one major problem I have with these tests in general.
Is they ALWAYS over emphasize how many INTP, INFJ, INFPs there are.

Supposedly the most rarest personalities, always end up being the most dominant on polls, regardless of what the poll is about.  Even just on Myers Briggs sites in general.  Waaay more INTP's than you should ever see in the wild.

The reason for that is internet usage.
INFP, INFJ, and INTP are all introverted internet dwellers.
We get most of our social interaction from the internet, hence any polls will ALWAYS skew the numbers in our favor, due to this natural correlation.

Its kinda like going to a loud bar or social gathering, and asking everyone their Myers Briggs.
You'll find an overabundance of ESFP, ESFJ, ESTJ by natural correlation.
The INFP, INTP, INFJ's likely wont even feature.

The simple conclusion is, we can't trust these polls, unless we ask both respective crowds the same question, in different settings :)

INFJ-T. Kind of surprising. I've never taken one of these before, but I'd bet I used to be INTJ at least before HRT.

Yay! INFJ is at 14 joint leader with INFP.  If this turns out to reflect the general trans population, it could show that trans people tend to have personalities differing from those of cis people.

The skew towards IN-- is what I find most interesting rather than one of the four IN-- types. I mean The F/T P/J seems reasonably distributed without a larger sample, but the IN-- group is just pulling further away at almost a full 3 quarters of responses, which is becoming statistically more relevant, at least as an indicator warranting additional study. It does beg the question if it is because of our sample (people who spend time on the internet taking quizzes ;D) or because of being trans (which could definitely drive an internalized personality), or a combination of the two(most likely).

Another INFP here, sending us into the lead :P

I've just done the test and everything seems to relate to me, except for when it comes to the strengths and weaknesses. A lot of the strengths were things I didn't feel I did :/ I don't know how I feel about these tests because sometimes I think they fit perfectly and sometimes they barely fit at all.

In other news I'm 96% introverted which seems about right!!

I ended up with the ISFJ-A or Defender personality.  Ive tried this test before and had another result though and both times I'ved answered honestly.  But with that said, both separate tests were neither all me though they both highlighted a part of me that I have noticed in myself.

Maybe If I retook the test and copied the ones I most related to from each section, I could end up forming my own personality type. ^_^

I haven't taken the test since college many, many years ago, and I don't remember where I was then. I used the link and found that I'm now a INFJ. I'm not sure where that places me in the poll, but the results sure seemed to fit at this time. Applause for the introverts of the world  :)

I really think the result will depend on how one is feeling at the moment...

The head of the therapists' association to which I belong suggests that while perhaps statistically significant, tests like this should in principle be ignored when actually dealing with clients. The fact that people tend to be influenced by what they're told can often obstruct change.

Still, I think they are fun as long as one doesn't take them as absolute truth.

I think there's a lot of truth in what you're saying zirconia.  It is interesting though.

I guess I'm an INFP-T too.

Mind       Introverted     53%
Energy    Intuitive         70%
Nature    Feeling           60%
Tactics    Prospecting    75%
Identity   Turbulent       83%

Take care,
Paige 😊

Lots of INFPs as usual.  The question is whether:
1. Being trans increases one's chance of being INFP?
2. INFPs are more likely to become trans?
3. Introverts are more likely to engage in Internet forums such as this since they find less enjoyment than extroverts in external social activities?

I'll bet that #3 is a big part of these results.  #1 probably contributes too.

Kind of the old question
Which came first?
The chicken sandwich. Egg salad. Or the omelet?

I've done this test several times over a few years now and always get INTJ "architect" or occasionally INTP "logician"

ENTJ....the Commander.  I have had positions of commanding all of my career, but hated being the boss.  I like to think I was successful because of the loyalty from my employees, who I would work alongside.  I was also a listener and knew other insights were part of the success of us all.  That in effect made us all part of commanding towards the end result.
