I'm surrounded daily by a famous Gandhi quote. It's on friends' posters, on colleagues' desks, on buttons and T-shirts, and in e-mail signatures. In my nice progressive bubble, I often think I really am the change I wish to see in the world. Then, I'm spun around by moments where I realize that in many areas I'm simply thinking the world is the way I wish it is, whether it really is or not.

For example, in my circle of friends, we take it for granted that the world isn't bi-gendered. This means we don't see people as being limited to female and male, either biologically or through their gender expression.
