I finally did it, after making the rounds with Meltzer, dr Zukowski and dr Spiegel, I decided to go with Facial Team. I waffles a lot between Meltzer and FT but the cost was a huge factor. I felt they were very similar in approach, recommendation, aggressiveness and Facial Team was like 30% cheaper. My insurance might cover it if I put enough time and effort into appeals but honestly I just don't have the energy right now with everything else going on in life. Transitioning. Hormones. Kids. Job. Wife/Divorce. Running a local charity, etc.

So September 13th I will be under the knife in Marbella.

So my question ladies is, where to stay? I have read a lot of not great reviews of the place they partner with, and it's kind of expensive at around $250/night (211€). Thoughts?

I think I am going to his up Disneyland Paris on the way there, it's been twenty years since I was last in Paris and it just seems appropriate! I'm a Disney gal and love Paris :)

Hi Jill,

I don't have answers for you but I do have a question. I am just beginning to think about some ffs and spoke with Dr. Ley at Dr. Meltzer's office and have their quote. You suggested that FacialTeam was 30% less expensive, did that include travel costs or just surgery and recovery costs?

Thanks,
Tia Anne

Hi Anna, for me the quote from Ley was $49,000 which included forehead, brow boss, rhinoplasty, lip lift, chin, jaw. Then add on to that another 8 days at a hotel at $150/night plus airfare of $600 and then whatever the transportation needs would be. I totaled everything out to around $55k. Facial team was 24000E for the same. I took off the rhinoplasty and added hair transplants and it came out at I think 27000E, current exchange is $1.23:1 so about $33k. Roundtrip airfare is shockingly around $700 on American from JFK, and the hotel is included in the quote. Either way I'm paying a significant tax penalty due to funding this through stocks but otherwise it's a pretty big savings for an outcome that seems to be pretty similar.

One of the things that kind of turned me off with Ley, well actually I guess there were two things. She was super nice, made me feel wonderful and spent what I felt was a lot of time with me. But she did not have any pictures that she could show me of before and after that were her work aside from one or two that I had already seen on this site, and the model that she came up with really was not very good. My spouse went into a tailspin as a result of seeing that model, unfortunately.

Both surgeons were super nice during the consultation, had a clear opinion of what should be done, what I might benefit from, and what I should not bother with. Unfortunately I have pretty significant brow bossing and very, very, very thin bone so some surgeons are not even an option.

I got very similar quotes from other US surgeons as Ley/Meltzer within some surprisingly small range.

The place Facialteam recommends is good - its quite posh for my circumstances, but I think its worth paying extra if you are basically travelling alone. They do cook for you , have a nurse on call all the time, electric comfortable beds, a nice balcony for each room and I hear now they also have a FacialTeam group table for dinner, so you can meet others as well as a shuttle service to bring you to the town. There is no other way than to take that shuttle or a taxi if you want to go anywhere - there is no supermarket nearby, no restaurants, its too far away from the hospital orthe city centers or the ocean to walk there. Also drink is only included during meal times, so you may want to bring some water from a supermarket to save money.
If you travel with a partner who can do the post OP care for you and are ok with getting food delivered or going to a restaurant with bandages still on, you could also just get other hotels or appartments.
So I am not sure if it still will exist in September, but I have booked "Jennys Nest" for my stay in Marbella in 2 weeks from now. Its sort of the bed and breakfast variation of that Aldea place - much cheaper, much smaller and the host is also the nurse at the same time, doing the aftercare with you - food supply is not hotel like though, so either the host may cook for or with you occasionally or you order in - she also knows good restaurants that dont find it weird to have bandaged guests. Location is near the old town, apparently. Sadly though on of the two hosts and owners has taken up an occupation with another surgeon in Belgium now and so I am not sure how this will continue to work, if she will still be in Marbella or if her partner will just run the place herself... but you have some time to decide, I believe.
I think usually the booking of rooms and flight can be done 3 months in advance or even less. I booked both about at the time the deadline for cancelling ran out.

Great information. I am not sure if I will be alone or with a companion. It's suddenly become... complicated. How do I get in touch with "Jenny's nest"?

I think this is the official facebook page - they also do have an email.

I think its a good balanced option between price and the care needed. I also pushed a bit for getting an electrical bed as well, so now they have one. I think they only have limited room now as it was downsized.
If you are coming with a friend or partner, I think you can also get one of the even cheaper appartments in the area and just care for each other, but I preferred to have someone who is experienced with patients having this specific surgery with this specific team and know how to do aftercare and what to do or whom to call in case something is not right.

I had a good look around the Aldea result when I went over for my consultation and I thought it was really nice. Quiet, clean, spacious. It's a little out of the way but when you're recovering that's not a bad thing. I'll be there just after you, early October x

Hi
I talked with my Susan's Admin friend about this and FT do seem OK and there are several YouTube posts about them which aren't their commercials, which are quite good (but not major surgery like I need,,), so maybe look to visit them next year but from the estimates my friends have received for a full/near full face set I would be talking £25-£40k inc hair, will be looking to my wife (Ex?) to come on 'holiday' to help a bit (and contribute maybe). Not certain what the best time is in the year as I wouldn't like full summer  or full winter so maybe October or March, not sure.. but need to see them for an assessment first unless I can catch them in the UK..
Well anither adventure for me.. :)

 Everyone;
A little background on Jenny's Nest. For about 7 years Jenny Nest and Facial Team co-operated really well, travelling together on consultations around the world (and working with a team of specialists).  Facial Team recommended people to Jenny's Nest and likewise Jenny Nest to Facial Team. Then Facial Team decided to set up there own  equivalent of Jenny's Nest doing a deal with the Aldea Health Resort. So they stopped promoting Jenny's Nest and recommended Aldea instead. Aldea is a very nice Health resort (but caters for many people) unlike Jenny's Nest that only caters for Transgender people undergoing FFS and more recently BBL and Fat grafting with Dr Aslani also in Marbella. So Jenny Nest (even in its now downsized operation is  run by Transgender women for Transgender women).

It provides personal care and a home from home with a lot of support. On the other hand if you want a slick up market Health resort, with no specialist Transgender support then you might s well use Aldea or just about any resort. Before I met the Jenny's Nest team, I stayed in the resort right next to  FFS Clinic. It was very reasonable. i could walk to the clinic, there was some shops just 2 minutes drive away  and a kiosk on site.the food was really good and there were two beauty therapists there plus there swimming pools. I can't really see what benefits the Aldea offers over that, other than perhaps saying they have resident doctors on site.  Also by the way they are a long way away from downtown, and if there using taxis, basically you will end up buying only what they sell at inflated prices. You can guarantee that Facial Team will be getting a slice of the pie too!

Jenny Nest on the other hand has been catering for Transgender women for a number of years and knows how to look after all of us. The new Jenny's Nest is in the Old town very close to tall the restaurants, shops etc.

To me the Aldea is really not a choice. Unless you like the up market non descriptive resorts and don't mind a lot of people gawking at you!

I stayed in both - the old Jennys Nest and the Aldea. I liked both, actually but found Aldea was overpriced - no free drinks outside the mealtimes and high prices for the drinks in the minibar - including water. Its far outside the town and one needed Taxi to go everywhere including a supermarket to buy water supply or snacks. I did like the food they have - great kitchen and they have a nice pool and comfortable beds with electric adjustments, private balcony to sit on and buttons to call a nurse that is trained in post OP care. But it was a bit lonely - most other people there had other surgeries or health issues - few FFS patients.
Jennys was more community-like - one immediately met a few other present or former FFS patients or their relatives. Jenny was nice and caring and does the post OP care and organize trips to the mall, supermarket, downtown for restaurants. There was a kitchen and I think usually you are sort of expected to cooc for yourself or come together with the others to cook. There was a small pool as well, a nice shared terrace. The rooms of course were a bit smaller and less luxurious than in Aldea. For some it was seen as a benefit that its all about trans women - so if one likes the trans community aspect, this was probably a better choice.

Overall I would have said Jennys is more like a Bed and Breakfast or Hostel with nice people and Aldea is more the five star hotel with full board but not much warmth.

Originally both were rather expensive. I was quoted roughly 2000 EU for both places, Jenny was a bit cheaper, Aldea a bit more expensive, but that was explainable with the difference in the food supply.

Now things did change a bit. First Jenny went down with pricing as she had to move to the appartment instead of the villa, then Aldea also went down in price. Jenny has downsized, so I dont know how many people one will likely meet other than Jenny and Nicola, they still have a pool and are near downtown now. Aldea has now set up a shuttle service to Marbella so one does not need a Taxi anymore to get out of the place, and they set up a Facialteam meeting table for mealtimes, yo you get in contact with other FFS patients and trans people if you like.

I booked with Jenny last fall before the switch to the appartment, so I can only hope that the appartment is nice as well. It seems significantly downsized as the rooms have no distinctly separate bathrooms but its hared bathrooms or one can get a private bathroom but has to go out of the room to get there. So its a bit less private than the villa. I convinced Jenny to get a bigger bed with electric adjustment motors though, because one has to sleep in an elevated head position post OP. Main reason for me to book with her was that I was afraid a bit of being lonely in Aldea, as I am not a very outgoing person and I may be prone to post OP depression, so I would like to have someone around to talk to. So her care is more personal and its probably "warmer" to be there , while the Aldea is more distanced but "professional".

I dont think its so bad that there are two options now, although I feel most people now choose Aldea or some other hotel, also because FT has cut out any reference to Jenny in their brochures. This seems to go back to some disagreement they both had last summer over how Jenny and her Nest would work with FT in the future. Details of that disagreement are hard to get though, but it seems that it turned a bit ugly :(
