Undoubtedly spending more.

I never had any interest in male clothing and only bought when the previous items were worn out or looking shabby.

Whereas I always had a small female wardrobe, that is now expanding significantly.

Apart from the spending of money, I also benefit from the spending of time. I enjoy female shopping. I peruse and examine and take my time.

I'd say I spend less. A lot of my clothing is donations from my local LGBT support group, hand-me-downs from my friend's mother, or bought at goodwill and discount stores. I hope to get more comfortable clothing when I go back to school shopping or something like that.

Hugs, Maria

I was homeless for awhile and lost all my dresses . I'm back in an apartment an need to rebuild

I'm so glad you have housing again, Stephanie! I am a retired social worker and once worked with homeless. I hope your life has stabilized and that you're finding peace and happiness. I'm sure you'll build up your wardrobe again, one dress at a time :)

I used to be able to hide my stash of clothes and makeup in the clothes hamper. I am now up to three drawers and a backpack. Being a woman is not cheap no matter how cheap you want to look. >:-)

I'm just saving every penny for transition, so clothes aren't really on my radar just yet.
I just mix and match a few skirts, leggings, tops and accessories. With a bit of imagination I can get by.

Peace and love and all that good stuff,

Sadie

I definitely spend more often, though if you count the cost of suits it probably evens out.  I don't buy much high end fashion, but have considerable luck finding nice stuff on the cheap.

More.. so much more..

As a male, you was a typical male when it came to clothes, just have what you need. Maybe its because boys clothes are boring...

When the woman came out in me, I became so interested in clothes (Ok I work in the fashion industry), I now have a large wardrobe. My husband, often says, baby you don't wear half of your clothes.  There are items I get on sale and I have never worm or dont wear a lot, but what he does not understand, i do have some evening dresses and cocktails dresses, you don't wear everyday... don't get me started on my shoe collection.

Before coming out and going full time I used to hate shopping and I only bought what I really needed to life as a male. A few pants and shirts, the same kind just different colors. :)

Right around coming out and going full time I replaced my entire wardrobe, having at least one or two pieces of each female clothing. Not long after I intensified my wardrobe to be able to go without any kind of male clothes, so in a short period of time I must have spend a small fortune on clothes.

My last count is 245 cloth hangers in use. And over 40 pair of shoes. :)

I did removed all my male clothes to donation and only kept a few pieces that have sentimental value. They are in a box in a closet, I will probably never see them again, but I can't let them go as they where given to me and represent family love.

Currently I am only shopping to maintain my wardrobe and every once in a while just for fun to get something new because I feel happy.

Male clothing has really never intetested me. Usually my wife pointed out to me that my clothes needed upgrading. Then, all of a sudden, my interest in clothes exploded when I started buidling my feminine wardrobe. It just feels wonderful!

I was the same as you..

I know that I have answered already. One thing that shocked me was the price of female underwear. Good bra is expensive. When I was male, I would buy these 5 packs of underwear., well for that price now, I get maybe one bra. I have D cup breasts, so I need good support and that costs money.

I can't remember what I spent on clothes prior to transition it's been so long ago, but I'd say very little, but I know from being married and living with a man for nearly 8 years it's much more expensive and higher maintenance living as a woman.
Hubby has a very small wardrobe, 4 pairs of shoes, that includes 1 pair of trainers, 1 suit, a few shirts, few pairs of pants and jeans.
I've a huge walk in wardrobe, it's enormous, over 40 pairs of shoes, pull out drawers for underwear, nightdresses etc, shelving and closets for blouses, tops and skirts, in the hanging area I have nearly 300 hangers in use for all my dresses, all sorted into summer dresses, evening dresses and party dresses, hubby has a few pairs socks that last for ages and gets hundreds of wears out of them, I'm lucky if I get a week's wear out of a pair of nylons or tights, sometimes I might only wear them once if they get a bad run, everytime I go shopping I always get a pack of tights, hubby never buys socks, they last for months, he doesn't understand shoes and clutch bag matching a dress color, he just rolls his eyes, and that only clothes, don't get me going on nails, hair and makeup, yes you do definitely spend more on clothes and general maintenance being a woman.
If your going thru hell, just keep going.

Before transitioning I was fine wearing the same shirt 3 days in a row and having it for many years if it didn't get holes... I just didn't care. When I finally got rid of my male clothes, most of it was what I wore in High School 13 years ago

Now Goodwil/thrift stores in general are my best friend and as I lose weight I re-donate the bigger stuff back and then get more that fit! :D

I have spent a LOT more money on clothes since I transitioned. Before I transitioned I had never spent much on clothes and I still had some clothes that were 20 or more years old that I still wore. I still had a pair of motorcycle boots I bought back in march of 1992.
My stepson has gotten to where he lovingly tries to guide me away from the ladies clothing section.
The other day I was looking at a blouse and commented on how a hat I saw in another section of the store would look good with it. He said "You have become a full fledged female, there is no hope for you now, you are ruined" We both had a good laugh over it.

Way way more :D When I moved out from home to start my transition I could fit all my clothes into two bags. At the moment I have a big wardrobe full of clothes and more shoes than I can fit into our shoe cabinet and the number of items grows every month :)
