Hi,  I'm a 22 year old MtF transsexual. I've been on HRT coming up to 15 months and had an orchi April 2018. Haven't seen lots of change yet from the HRT. I feel and look a bit more feminine, no chest or bottom to speak of yet. Will wait and see what happens, in the meantime am doing power lifting exercises to assist with rear development. Thanks Deborah for the training tips. I ID and dress as female.

Hi Gloria!

Sorry that HRT does not seen to have had the desired effect as of yet for you. Still better to be on the hormones than not I would imagine. Hopefully, they will "kick in" more sooner rather than later for you!

Greetings and welcome to the community, Gloria!

I'm so sorry to hear that your HRT hasnt been as effective as expected! What I usually hear is visible changes in 3, then 6 months. What has your endo been saying? Did they not have you on anti-androgens?

Having a good diet can help, exercise, too. Jessica made a great post about nutrition there is lots of info there! I, myself, do the glutes workout on Spotebi.com. and recently, I've taken to waist training with a corset and it can definitely help support a more curvy midriff.

Hopefully, your journey starts picking-up speed and you blossom more fully soon!

Take care, enjoy the forums and have fun with all the great people here at Susan's! ;D

Much love,

Eryn
Looking to make and keep friends! Spreading the love, now that I can truly love myself!

If you have any questions then don't hesitate to ask me.  I'm nowhere near an expert but I'm pretty well read on the subject and have been doing it awhile.  In the meantime:

Hi Deborah,  wow that's looks serious.  I've had a couple of tries my local gym, so far;  bench press 80 lbs, squat down type exercise 90 lbs and deadlifting an olympic bar 100 lbs. Will graduate on to exercises that you recommended next time.

Hi Deborah,  that last post was from me, Gloria, I was with my best friend Justine. She is a lot stronger than me and is also helping me with training exercises, we go to the same gym sometimes.

Deborah

Your bench press and squat are close to what mine was a year ago.  My deadlift was higher but my body structure is built for that with long femurs and long arms.  Improvements will come very fast in the beginning and continue at that rate for some months.

Hi Deborah,  thanks for the encouragement.  I really ache now, I'm walking around like I've got 2 wooden legs. I guess that is what happens when you dive in as high as you can go. I've stayed up late tonight talking about HRT and exercise etc with Justine. From what we've been reading power type exercises are a really good way to prevent osteoporosis. I'm not sure this applies to us as we are 22 and 25 respectively but it's another good reason to train.
I also think trained legs look better in high heels.

The soreness only lasts for a week or two.  After that you can just about kill yourself in the workout and soreness the next day will be minimal.

Osteoporosis doesn't really become a problem for people until they're around 60.  However, by working out early, like you, bones will become denser so that when you do get to 60 the risk of osteoporosis will be near zero.  It also just makes your skeleton stronger so that the risk of such things as back and knee problems later and even broken bones anytime are also reduced.  It's kind of nice getting to 60 without any of the problems that plague so many others and without any medications, other than the HRT, LOL.

Some kind of cardio exercise is also recommended for your heart.  I'm finding that difficult on top of everything else but still force myself to do some each week.

Hi Eryn T,  excuse my slow reply.  I didn't take anti androgens for long as they disagreed with me and partly because I was worried about side effects.  Also I had very small testicles and wasn't producing a lot of testosterone so I reckoned I could manage without. Maybe I was wrong there, I'm hoping now that I've had the orchi the combined effect of good diet, exercise and being patient with the HRT will have the desired results. However I'm prepared for the possibility than I'm not genetically inclined to have a curvy body and wouldn't have done even if I'd been born female.
