Andrea Jane

Hi everybody
I have Gender Reassignment Surgery this coming Thursday (21-6-18).

It will be an amazing day I think. I started my transition in October 2016 and things moved pretty quickly. By avoiding the NHS Gender clinic I have saved myself 2+ years and by finding my Phycologists carefully ( I saw Phycologists a grand total of 3 times to get my two referrals) and a surgeon (I have seen a surgeon once) the whole process can be done quickly.

I still can't really believe it but wow it really is going to happen

How did anybody else feel in the last few days prior to GRS? I am strangely calm (counting down the clock) and have absolutely no doubts.

Would love to hear how people felt..

I feel the same! I skipped our official public health care system (Finland) and just said to them, screw you, not going to first of all answer to your humiliating psychiatric questions, and secondly, not going to live halfway there, for years and years, most likely closer to 7 years from start to finish!

Got a private gyno from Estonia, gender specialist from England and surgeons from Thailand. And surgery is coming in less than three weeks!

Got my transition done in less than a year, although of course the hormones will continue to do their magic years to come, but the pulling of the teeth part is soon over.

Compared to our gender clinic system, which most likely at it´s current stage, takes about seven years and you are on the mercy of some arbitrary decisions. I wasn´t going to hang in a loose noose, for years  :)

I find that most of my doubts and anxiety over the surgery are now gone, the closer I get to the date. Of course the healing part worries me, but...it is something that I cannot really affect much, if something goes wrong. Thankfully, statistically the things that can go wrong are quite minor.

I'm still researching a surgeon to do my top surgery, but I'd LOVE to hear from some FTMs! :)

My wife had suggested I just go somewhere and pay to have it done, it will be 3 years from the original ask to see the doctor that makes the health care connection and right now it is about 4 years to get in for surgery as there are so few clinics here that do it we have to be flown to the other side of the country to get it done the only good thing I have is a medical reason to get the orchi done and that will happen in august

It's hard to be patient, I know, but, as I said before, I think you are making a smart decision.

My heart and brain are in it but I am severely lacking funds to do so and then not become homeless. I can't afford to take a month or two off from work to heal:( so 2019 here we come

Sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread. Good luck on everything Andrea!! You've earned it and won't be disappointed I am sure

Congratulations!! 💃 I'm happy for you. I'm smiling at this and laughing because this brings hope for my own future. Knowing this doesn't have to take forever and you will have your happiness but mine will come. One step at a time.

Hello Andrea Jane

That really is fast - 20 months from start to GCS - and that is wonderful and much better than the customary 4 years under our NHS. I greatly admire our NHS but unfortunately it is greatly underfunded for transgender care.

I just checked your previous posts and I see you are a late transitioner like me. I took action privately with GenderGP aged 62 last year and started HRT in February and I may go down the private route for surgeries also as I have lost so much valuable time in my life already.

I agree with you children are more ready to accept than many so called "Christian" adults. I am Christian but not of the "born again" or of the "judging" type.

Congratulations on the 20 months  and I wish to you every success for Thursday 21 June and every happiness for the future.

Hugs

Pamela
