I'm finding as I transition more a lot of my female mannerisms are coming out like the way I stand, sit and use hand gestures. Someone actually pointed this out to me before I noticed. I hadn't even thought about the subtleties. Once I started noticing I would watch transpeople and found some act very manly and other quite girly. And in my mind I tended to think of them more as he then she or she then he. This goes along way towards strangers calling you she or he (in proof reading I notice I always put she before he now, I never did that before). It made me realize that I had been pretending to be a guy for so long that somethings are just habit I didn't notice, so it makes for an odd combination of the two.

Has anyone thought about or tried this? People watching only goes so far.

It's good to study people! Trans people are all different of course and their desire to be feminine and masculine. Other than people watching, TV and movies are a good source of mannerisms postures etc. There are also a good number of YouTube videos out there.

What helped me a lot was letting down my guard, and allowing myself to relax. It's helpful to watch other women, but most of the female mannerisms may already be a part of you, just let your feminine energy flow from your core.

I am inclined to agree that, although watching may be worthwhile to some degree, we probably subconsciously possess and show them. I am still in male mode but intending to transition after more physical benefits from HRT but have been told long before HRT that I display some female mannerisms.

On the other hand, I think many of us including me certainly require some social conversion/transition.

Associating with cis females that know you are tg, and becoming friends, they will point out your male mannerisms and you can correct them. Mostly, you learn naturally as your friends are all females and as female groupings you will naturally pick up their behavior.. Living in Bangkok I also have many thai tg friends who act like females. They tend to be even more critically helpful. However, I  have encountered Western tg females and their mannerisms just dont pass. Its the walk. the style of clothes, makeup, body language, reminded me of myself some 3 years ago.
When we first start our journey the perception and moral values all dramatically change in wonderment. As we evolve further it all becomes normal again but the journey has changed us forever.

I have to agree cis woman are great allies and will point out errors. Legs crossed and pulled back. The way you sneeze, not keeping your shoulders level etc. I find people watching at malls a great way to see the differences.

Like put on foot in front of the other or walking softly in smaller steps. I also notice that when I sit I tend to squish my boobs together and wear low cut shirts. Been waiting along time to do that. I also found strapping the bra on the first rings pushes your boobs out more. Sometimes I forget I'm in public and catch myself playing with them. I just assumed I would be flat for some reason. Sitting "small" on your chair with your legs up and to the sides helps assuming you can fit on the chair. I always make it  a point my heels are touching or my feet are directly next to each other when I stand or sit.

I need drawings or pictorials.

Wat do you mean T 7.4/236? I know my test is 15. Not sure my estroen other then as high as we should go. Only took two months to get it like that. Starting natural T was at 100 though. So I think thats why I changed so fast. Its great buying a bra because you have to.

Th ecanadian measurement is the 7.4 which converts to the American measurement of 236. We do it different here so I did the calculations for everyone. I'm now at 1.6 nmol which is 46.147 ng/dl
Your 100 would convert to 3:46 here = low

Hello Lexi Nexi and Donna

Just to let you know that some months ago Kathy started a thread on HRT Board "Unit Conversions" which shows arithmetical calculations from International Units to US and vice versa and which by coincidence I added another point to the thread on 30 June.

My doctor says trans women should be below 20ng/dl. If you are above that the estrogen won't work or it blocks it. I can definitely feel if I am above that number. 100ng/dl doesn't feel too much different then 700ng/dl but 100 to 15 is a world of difference.

You can watch some videos a la charm or finishing school training and then just tone down the pretentious a bit. Or old movies (ignore the sexist elements).
:P

In all seriousness tho.

Watching people and how they interact is always a great way to learn mannerisms. Go out to a park and sit and "read" while playing crocodile hunter.

Hi Lexi;
Three tips I suggest are:
1. Go to your local shopping mall - take a notepad or iPad, find a suitable seat in the centre of the mall and then just watch all the women as they walk past, browse the shops etc. Look at how they mov, sit, watch their hand gestures, how they stand when talking with another woman etc

2. Join a womens only group of some sort. I have joined a couple of such groups and it has helped me enormously.
3. Find a BFF and get them to go out with you and ask them to correct you when you do something wrong. When I first transitioned, I had two BFF that "took me in hand" so as to speak and kept on reminding me to do stuff, like crossing my legs, brushing skirts and dresses forward when sitting down etc. Obviously these days you can learn a lot from  watching You Tube, but I think going to the shopping mall is the best idea.

Girl Watching!
A fun activity in it's own right too.

Emily has me watch interviews of ladies like Meryl Streep, Sally Field etc. and then asks a bunch of questions of what we just watched. She will say things like. Did you see her play with her hair. Did you notice how she crossed her legs. Notice the hand gestures etc. Notice how she is using forward resonance. We use Meryl, Sally and others due to age appropriateness. For me to act like a twenty year old would not be appropriate.

Got my newest test result back and my estrogen is at 60 and I'm starting a new routine to increase it. My testosterone is now at 0.2 from the eligard shot. I'm also now 14 days away from my orchi.

What helped me was picking a show, say Gilmore Girls, where feminine women were the main characters. Then just relate to the characters - the clothes are a useful hook for this, imagine wearing this character's clothes, or that character's - and if you're like me, you'll suddenly feel like you're in that body, making those hand movements. Or, just watch videos by Zoey Alexandria where she talks about female mannerisms, or anything recent by Contrapoints - compared to her older stuff. Tons of other youtubers you could use for this xx

People watch! The mall, train stations, parks, outside sidewalk seating at restaurants are great for this. I work in Philadelphia and always choose to sit outside where I can observe people just going about their life.

Your walk and mannerisms will adjust. I'm told I have very graceful and feminine movements. I have no idea if that's true, but I am very expressive with my hands, and the way that takes shape has changed as I have let go of the old male persona.

Just watch people and I found it useful to focus on just one thing at a time. I started with how I walk... one foot in front of the other, feet close together. And so on.
