I was talking to my aunt for the first time in months and I just could no hold it in any longer...

So I told her and she's ok with me being more female than male...!!!

She even agrees that many of my behaviors when I was younger make a lot more sense now ( i behaved like a teenage girl most of the time...)

I feel a bit better, having had told someone in my family...

She is going to think about how she thinks my father will take it when I eventually tell him....she thinks my mom might either go into whiny jewish princess mode (yes she was a jewish princess when she was younger) or be happy to have an almost daughter...

OMG OMG OMG...I kinda just could not keep it in any more...ok time for rye bourbon...

Nice that she took it so well.

I tell people when I can't hold it in anymore. That is the right time for me.

Good luck with telling your parents. Close ones are always the hardest, and then it gets easier every time.

take your time and be selective in your revelation of you.

Over time I have found the reactions to be quite unpredictable, and some change over time, for good or for ill, sometimes, they accept, can't handle it, and then come around and accept later.

But it's always a wild ride and an adrenaline pumping moment to do the reveal.

I have most folks on a "need to know" basis, unless I am crusading for our rights to exist, then I come out in a heartbeat.

It all depends on what the stakes are, and it's a very individual choice.

I am very glad this was a positive experience for you.  I hope you have many more.

Congrats Lexie. I know one of my biggest fears was that my grandmother would find out. My parents died when I was fairly young (32) and I lived with her after my divorce. Such a special lady in my life, I could not disappoint her. Knowing my grandma I feel she would probably be ok with it, but why take the chance. Transgender was not even a word at that time. It was about the same time I started seeking therapy unfortunately there were no gender therapists at the time.
