Any modders on here? I thought it might be cool to have place where we can talk mods, share things we've done, or tweaks we've made to popular mods and TCs for various engines and sourceports.

I've never made a mod--I'm too lazy.

The only game I've modded extensively was Skyrim; the last time I played it I installed the max # of mods to try and make the game as bizarre as possible--adding stuff like auto-tuned bears, candycane swords, spongebob shields for guards, rideable tigers, mlp armor, DBZ spell sound effects, guns and rocket launchers, etc. and then I went into the game's files and changed ALL the music. I don't remember EVERYTHING I used, but I replaced most of the fight and boss music with anime themes, I replaced some of the overworld songs with tracks from Mario and Banjo Kazooie, and I had Eisenfunk and The Monkees playing whenever I went into a castle.

I like the way you think.

I'm not mod crafter too, but I like modding games. First walkthrough I completing without any mods for better experience, but then I starting to fix everything I don't like - animation, balance, gameplay, interface etc. My first modded game was, probably, SW: KoTOR. Didn't have internet back then, had this game on CD, then bought magazine about computer games, there was CD with videos, patches and etc, found there few modifications for this game haha :D

And now the first thing I do after finish game I like, I go to Nexus and see if there something I can use :D

Nice!!!! I started with weapons mods and tweaks (shotgun spread, projectile speed, impact actors, the whole nine yards, and playing in acs and decorate scripts in general. Then worked my way up to playing with aspects of total conversions, huds, sprites, and overall game writing.

I often end up modding other mods to my liking. ;) Which is where the whole passion started with it.

I'm currently thinking of modding the first American McGee's Alice, given it uses older script. I might even be able to get 'hysteria' in there, which is a chief goal, though it would look a little different given the engine upgrades between the two. Overall, though, the general layout is very similar - its just a matter of cross compatibility with engine dynamics and acs translation. I can't wait for the 3rd installment. <3

I do hope they'll do a better job on bug testing this time around though, so I don't have to fix it myself. :P

I know KatieByrne has done lots of mods, but she doesn't really come on Susans anymore, you could look her up on youtube - she has lots of videos some of her mods some of her transitioning.

I'm currently working on my own game using Unity etc, I do 3d modelling and animation professionally using maya, zbrush/mudbox, photoshop etc  so thats my angle but I can also code - just not very efficiently...lol

I don't make mods, but use many mods in games. What I don't like about mods is that on the PS4 trophies are disabled for the games I play. <hmmpp> I don't like it. :(

Mods on PC games are almost always better. I really miss my ROG system with a mad SLI configuration spanning two monitors. <sigh> that was about four years ago.

Sonja, I didn't know you did stuff like that! Come to think of it, I didn't even know you played games. May I ask what kind of game it is? Genre, etc?

While I do not have the technical knowledge to make my own mods, I do mod Fallout 4 pretty heavily. I recently started another play through and it's been entertaining. I wish I did have knowledge of modding, I would love to tweak some of the mods I use. I especially enjoy some of the weapon mods.

Hi Robin, Its a fighting side scroller, I wanted to make it really brutal but I'm in two minds about it because a friend I have who works at Microsoft  said he would setup a meeting for me with the xbox people once I had a demo but said it would be unlikely at a beginners stage to get support if it was too brutal...Hmmm. Anyhow that game demo is on hold while I create a more basic game - still a fighting side scroller but simple graphics and gameplay mechanics - I  need to get my head around the full game output experience because my original game idea is rather complex and involved.
I've been playing games since I was 8  zx spectrum , moved onto an acorn electron and began programming in basic, moved to commodore 64 and gave up coding for a few years, moved onto pc +Nintendo 64. Played millions of games, some of my favourites are bombjack, outrun, maniac mansion, ikari warriors, platoon, doom, quake, delta force (all), AvP, warcraft 2, warcraft 3, World of Warcraft, command and conquer, return to castle wolfenstein,  Golden eye -n64, spore, lotr Battle for middle earth, guildwars 2, battlefield 1942,  SW shadows of the empire -n64, 1080 snowboarding -n64, mario cart, killer instinct, mortal combat, age of conan ........I think I better stop....LOL

I have quite a few different game ideas, these side scrollers are ones to get me started. For my job I'm a contractor, I create 3d models for architecture animations and images and also 3d models for jewelry 3d printing.

I've used mods for Skyrim and the Fallouts (though, I mean, who doesn't? 95% of the mods on Nexus must be for Fallout and Elder Scrolls), plus XCOM 2 and Sims 3. Though I'm never fond of mods that significantly change the game, through some hang-up of my own.

I recently tried my hand at modding Crusader Kings 2. On the plus side, there are plenty of guides out there, and a huge and helpful community. On the other hand, it's a painful process and, for all it's amazing moddability, the game really doesn't want you doing much to its standard gameplay (People have made some impressive mods that change a lot, but they are a whole lot of work, often needing to be redone for each release).
As to what I was doing, well, yeah, I was trying to add a matriarchal culture. So original*. I was trying to tough it out myself, learning it all as I went, piece by piece. I think when I return to it I might grab a couple of existing mods that accomplish similar things and tear them apart - if I can get past my pride and control-freakery.

* I will give you exactly one guess as to which not-exactly-historic culture that might be (though I figure I had my own spin).
