No offense to your FTM gents out there but guys get the raw deal on clothes. I've been browsing the Torrid website for the last couple of days off and on. I am just drooling over all of the cute clothes. I'm larger so it's not like I can look at a trendy clothing store for young and thin ladies. Torrid has some hip stuff though but oh my. The patterns and styles. It's absolutely dizzying. I'm trying to be happy to be wearing my undergarments but oh geez. If only I could have a couple of those cute tops, or sweaters, or skirts, or dresses. Don't even get started on the shoes. It is just not fair. I am so terribly jealous of anyone who is out and dressing full time. I am grateful to live vicariously through all of you. Love and faith.

Hello Gabrielle,

I have been expressing since November 13, 2015, Friday the 13th when I came out at work.

So, I have lost a lot of weight and gained lean muscle. I have been gradually getting more daring with my clothing options. I has not been easy. Saturday will be the third time I will be wearing a dress; at a work formal. It is a size 16, two years ago I was a size 18. More importantly it is fitting more proportionally now and no need for a wig. I think I will look good.

It has been a struggle for me in the past three years. I kept out of my comfort zone and did something new or a little bit different often. It builds in time as does self confidence. Your internal voice can move a mountain.

Saturday I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and purchased some gym clothes. My heart did not race and I did not feel faint. In fact I felt just fine. Wow, what a difference  5 years makes. I was a mess then and so frightened. Now it is second nature.

Shoes, well I buy on line due to size and style. Just something I accept.

I go to spin class at the gym and there are 45 or so bikes and almost all woman. I compare myself to those there. I am somewhere in the middle as far a body goes. Lots and lots of work there and help from doctors.

I understand where you are and how it feels. A very wise women here (Ms. Grace) one time said. " Do not be envious of one thing be envious of everything". Meaning if you see someone and envy their looks you do not know their whole story. We all have things that make life difficult. I know it does not help much but it is very true.

I use to envy woman wearing fitted jeans, a thick sweater and brown calf high riding boots.  Well I have those now and I do not envy woman that wear them. I am just one in a crowd, I hope.

It is not easy and it is not fare and it is not over or final.

Rachel

Gabrielle - CORRECT!  Guys clothes are mostly very boring.  I lost weight a while ago, telling everyone it was to look better, for my health etc etc

Actually the real reason ---> it was so I would look good in a dress.........  ;D

Yes, the clothes are nice but it isn't easy to look good in them.  Boy clothes do a great job of hiding excess fat.

Which is why I like to wear girl clothes in men's styles for work, as I don't have any excess fat to hide.  8)
Plus the fact that there is no men's equivalent of women's XS.

I wholeheartedly agree.  The colors, style and fit of women's clothes have it all over the guy stuff—except for tailored business suits.  I've found the pickings kind of slim for women's skirt suits, and the variety of wools, tweeds and fabrics for women's suits is vastly inferior to menswear unless you go full custom tailored.

For this reason, I am making a lot of court appearances in solid color mini skirts and one of my old Brooks Brothers sport coats or suit jackets, tailored down to fit my smaller, more svelte post HRT figure.  I bought a women's Brooks Brothers blazer, laid it on top of my men's sport coats, took a lot of measurements, then took everything to my tailor and had her convert all the boy stuff to female specifications and replace all the buttons with mother of pearl.   It wasn't cheap, but having a bunch of female cut blazers in Italian wool that no one else has = priceless.

I completely agree! Boy clothes are sooooo boring. I also agree that Torrid is a fantastic store!!! They have such cute clothes, and I'm not super slim either (working on that), so I have a hard time not buying just about everything in there :)

For the most part guy clothes are just a boring way to cover one's body. But I agree with Carly that one of the only exceptions are nice business suits and I would add smart military uniforms (which apply to both guys and gals). Both are sexy and appealing.

For me, wearing guy clothes is like wearing a potato sack with all the fun of, well, wearing a potato sack. Girl's clothes are like a party. Fun, exciting, colorful and revealing. Once M-Fs get some boob and butt growth going, how fun it is to play with reveals and such. There is no comparison on the fun and sexy scale. :)

I love dresses!!

Couldn't agree more. It's so much fun to be able to express yourself with clothes.

You guys live in the wrong part of the country!  Here in south west Florida, at the gulf cost, everybody wears as little clothing as possible, which means shorts and some tops.  Guys shorts are way better, because most of them are cargo shorts and I can pack all my stuff into the pockets and don't need a stupid purse.  And the guys shorts come in the same colors like the girls shorts.  With the tops the guy stuff is way more colorful than the girls stuff, because a lot of guy shirts are Hawaiian shirts, and more colorful than those is hardly possible!

Come and move to the area of eternal summer, and you can wear the more efficient guys stuff with all the color you can ever dream of!

Hahaha - A few weekends ago, my wife asked me to dress in my old clothes for a meet with some of her friends who don't know yet. Yep. Boy clothes suck. They felt so stiff and uncomfortable... oh and boring of course. But I guess it is what you are used to. Initially I thought tank tops or sleeveless tops are a total no go, now I love them and could wear them every day.

I think I haven't bought any male clothing in the last 6 or 7 years and I'm not fulltime. I have a big wardrobe filled with women's clothing, some clothes are very feminine, others are not so much, those are the ones I wear when I still have to present as male. One of the first things I have discovered is how much better women's pants fit me. Before buying my first women's jeans I have never had pants that fit me correctly.

If I want some motivation to lose weight, I just have to think about the beautiful clothes in my wardrobe to motivate me even more. I can fit into all my dresses but they look a lot better on me when I'm not overweight.

The lack of variety in men's clothing is especially apparent around spring and fall, when the temperature is not too cold or too hot to narrow down the clothing choices. Women wear every imaginable combination, you can see skirts, pants, dresses, tops, short and long, sandals and boots in very different styles and colors at the same time and place. Looking around on these days you can hardly see two women who are dressed in the exact same manner. Men's clothing can sometimes be quite practical and that's about the only positive thing I can think of.

I was a child of the 70s and things were colourful then. I have lots of photos of me as a child in purple silky trousers and flamboyant yellow shirts... yuk. Then I was teen of the 80s and we had glam metal... allowed me to have long hair, wear make up (when out - never in front of my Dad - he freaked at the long hair until I pointed the finger at our viking heritage), tight fitting clothes, leggings... it wasn't perfect but it was doable.

Then the 90s hit and grunge... urggggghh... wtf!  Men's fashion took a turn for the worse and it never really recovered after that.

I got myself a woman's hoody the other week to wear at the trans meeting and to make me feel a bit better... and it is shaped tight at the waist and it feels like someone is giving me a warm hug. I will add to my wardrobe after Christmas... it has been neglected for too long. But it was nice to wear something that was fitting again and not a sack. At the moment I am a size 16 but I've almost lost another notch on the belt... YEH!!!  ;D

What belt width/male width would size 16 correspond to?

I meant to say size 18 for jeans, I am size 16 for tops. size 18 is 36" (and I started at 38")... size 16 is 33.5" and I am aiming for size 14 (30.5"). At the moment I am 34.5". So not far off size 16 for jeans.

I am hovering between 36" and 34", I would call it 35" at the moment.  I plan to go down to 32" or something like this

Hmmm...women's cloths are colorful. Men's not. But I like the fact that anything matches. I might be boring but the most colorful T-shirt I have is green. I can't see what matches. I lack that ability. I don't even notice when people have cut their hair or changed glasses. That made me a lousy woman. Women's cloths look good on women. Not on me. I walk and move wrong and I have no ass to fill up women's pants with. I'm not even on T yet.

I'm happy you find joy in cloths. There is so much to chose from for you. I wear cloths to not walk around naked. Haha
