OK - the question of the day is....

Box mix or from scratch if you're baking a cake?

Well, I'm a pie type girl.  So scratch.  When I bake a cake it's in a Dutch oven when I'm camping....mix is far easier in the woods or on the sand.

From scratch...I love to bake and always have..bugging my Mum at an early age but being "put off" initially while she worked out if I was serious or not...anyway after stopping work I spent that first year baking a lot and made some really delicious  stuff...also broke my scales after the first 2 months...for the sake of my health I quit eating but continued to bake but eventually stopped...still love to bake

Box mix.  I bake and freeze the leftovers for desert with my lunch.  This helps maintain my girly figure.

Scratch! I have more control and can both do different sizes and tinker easily.
Earth my body, water my blood, air my breath and fire my spirit.

My personal transition path included medical changes.  The path others take may require no medical intervention, or different care.  We each find our own path. I provide these dates for the curious.

I don't bake cakes, I am a bread baker, and constantly experimenting with ancient grains in my breads.  Because of this, i am starting from scratch!
I used to have a real stone oven  at my house up north.  I am now using one of those Green Egg type grills for baking the bread, and the results are almost as good as I had with the stone oven.

I'd always insisted on scratch baking my cakes, I saw box mixes as kind of cheating.

However... my Devlyn has a penchant for a box mix cake and will admit they do come out very moist and consistent; do I'm a bit of a convert.

I seem to have found a happy medium and appreciate both routes to high-calorie pleasure!

As per Alton Brown of Good Eats on the Food Network, boxed cake mixes taste better than scratch, because there are ingredients that only cake mix manufacturers can add in the mix.

As we were getting acquainted, Megan asked me what kind of cake I liked. My answer? "Moist"

Yes, moist is good.  That is true of a lot of food, isn't it?

Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

This is the Pumpkin Pie Cake I made yesterday!  Yum! 
And yes from scratch and very moist!
I do listen to Alton Brown's suggestions, but like mentioned elsewhere, I prefer using organic ingredients and I can't recall seeing organic cake mix readily available.  I do break that rule when out and about on walkabouts though.

It is easier for me to use a good Betty Crocker box mix.

That does not mean it is better than scratch, it just means I am lazier I guess.

Box mix frequenty goes on sale as a loss leader.  Cheaper than scratch!
