[California/USA]Constitutional Amendments Banning Same Sex Marriage Predictable if It's Spring in an Election Year in California

"It's becoming predictable every election season. California's anti-gay groups are attempting to put a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage on the November ballot. They presume Californians will agree with them and flock to the polls, erasing years of progress."

How foolish of me to think of California as a "progressive" state.  But then, I guess compared to the rest of the country, maybe it is.  *sigh*

Well, the red state / blue state thing is a bit overstated.  There are large minorities of people in "conservative" states that generally desire moderate/liberal policy, and there are minorities of people in "liberal" states that generally desire conservative policy.  In Republican v/ Democratic matters, most of the states fall between 40-60% each way, and it's rare to see them stray outside 30-70%.

However...

The Daily Show two years ago had "Ah, a constitutional process to ban gay marriage? And yet that was the only time he mentioned it until now [in spring 2006, and the previous time was 2004]. It's as though marriage in our country is only threatened during even numbered years. It's the cultural version of raising the terror alert. All I can say is, as election day gets closer, I would not be surprised to see a large suicide c*ck threatening Manhattan." (ripped from here)

True most states are shades of purple.  But for several reasons - not all of them silly - California will not do this.  With housing values falling in double digits every month, people have a lot more to be worried about then who's sleeping with who.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...
