I'm getting my eyebrows done this weekend. I normally get them cleaned up when I get them done. However, I really want to get shaped slightly. Nothing to obvious, or blatant. Should I just tell esthetician that I want them cleaned up, and shaped a bit feminine, but not blatant? I'm a bit nervous to ask for it.

I would just explain that I am trans and sometimes present as female and want my brows more in line with my makeup. But I am open about it. Most providers will be accepting and might even offer some tips or advice. If you don't specify what you are trying to achieve, they could misunderstand your intent.

Yup!

There's a fine line between saying THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT - ONLY DO WHAT I SAY (not a great idea when dealing with someone who does something professionally), and "Hey... whatever, you know best!"

Just give them some direction... tell them a little about you, your lifestyle and why you're getting them done, and if they're good at their job, they should be able fill in the rest. Or at least present you with some options from there.

I need to get my eyebrows done as well, and I was talking to my electrologist last week and she said she could do it, and so I said "go for it!"... she knows me very well after building a nearly two year relationship/friendship... so she automatically gets what I want/need. But even so, she said we'll talk about it next time as she has a couple of ideas she wants to run by me.

The other thing you certainly can do is look at women online (or pick up a magazine) and if you see someone's eye brows that look good to you, take a pic with your phone so you can show it to her and say "I'm not 100% sure, but I do like this look."

Good luck!!

I found the lady who does my hair on a website called Strands for Trans. She has a small one chair salon. I had her wax and tint my eyebrows. She knows that I am trans as I present when I go there. I told her to clean up my eyebrows, make them a little feminine but not too obvious because of work and family. I recommend the website as it lists salons and stylists all over. You may find someone who you are 100% comfortable with and communicate your needs.

That's what I told my esthetician, too. I just got home from there, and she knocked my eyebrows out of the park. They're definitely more feminine looking. I'm super happy with how they came out.

How long does a eyebrow make over last before it needs re done?

I plan to have my eyebrows re-done soon. It has been a month and a half. If you can keep up with it and tweeze, plus you can buy eyebrow tint, then you can do it yourself at home once you get them waxed. I have not kept up with mine. I usually come from work exhausted and weekends have been busy.

Quick question, not to de-rail the original topic.

Have you noticed your eye brows growing differently after being on HRT for awhile (for those that are on HRT)? As in thicker or longer or in a more feminine pattern?

I know estrogen is called the beauty hormone and that it does affect hair growth. I was just wondering how it affects eyebrows specifically, as well as eye lashes.
