My stats (all pre HRT):
Height: 5'7" (well, 5'6.5" but my DL says 5'7")
weight: 170 lbs (that's depressing)
Chest: 38"
Waist: 30"
Hips: 36"
Just for kicks I'll put in a few extras:
Thighs: 21"
Calves: 16"
Biceps: 13"

I think I'm in about a size 8 or so but I'm not completely sure.
I also have no clue how I'm supposed to weigh 170 but apparently I do.
Jeez, muscle is a lot harder to get rid of than you'd think.

Always Amanda,

Thank you for the compliment.  I edited my original post because I thought it was important to note that I have always had this basic figure.  I have never worn a corset & HRT helped me gain about 1/2 to 1 inch in the hips & loose an inch approximately in the waist.  Now I have only been on HRT for 7 months.  I started at 22 years old...I'm now 23.

I was chubby as a child and never participated in any sports and as I entered puberty in my early teens I was still carrying some "baby fat" and I never did much as far as working out or playing sports like many boys do so I never developed those muscles or traditional broad shoulder look.  I began to loose the weight around 17 or so and I had this figure underneath.  It's always been there - my mother & cousins, aunt, etc. all have curvy figures, as my family is Greek.   It's kind of interesting because my Dad's got a very straight up & down traditional male shape and my younger sister is very busty but has taken on his more "straight up & down" figure in the rest of her body, where as me (being born genetically male) have my mom's bigger butt & wider hips.  I don't know how that happened!  :P

I'm not sure if there's any "scientific proof" to my theory above but it's just my observations.

Tell me about your situation....

and anyone else want to share?

Sounds like you are very lucky to be born with a wide bone structure in the hip area. It
is a very typical female difference. Good for you :)

My situation... lol... just trying to feel my way down the dark tunnel called GID.

Hey... give us a name... even if it is fake... I hate to refer to people like
mclova84... lol... it's so impersonal :)

Yes I guess it's something your either born with or not...it's most likely due to my ethnicity...wide hips bones run in our culture.

And you will make it sweety...don't worry...the road is full of *MANY* hight & lows! :)

Just call me "Barbie" if you must, LOL I know that has a whole stigma but it truly is my nickname amongst my friends (they have always referred to me as the "Greek Barbie" since childhood...kind of an inside joke) :P, don't want to give the full name...no offense to anyone of course, just a personal preference.

Anyone want to chime in with their stats or feedback?

I understand completely Berliegh, but I feel like it's being critical and I hope you understand when
I react to that. I'm glad to have your experience around and I totally share your frustration. :)

Amanda

Unfortunitely in forums you not allowed to see things as they really are or say what you really see....and it's a constant battle to put something across which isn't meant to be critical but at the same time it is what you actually see. My friend who is another TS rips me apart on a regular basis and I used to think she was an awful ** but she is usually absolutely right and puts my feet on the ground and points out the things that are really not working with me. We have a tendancy to say 'oh you look amazing darling to each other' but we know that's not really true. I don't like being negative but at the same time I find it hard not to say what I see....

If I posted a pic of my lower body and someone said 'you look like a bloke' I'd say your right so what can I do about it....I have no dillusions which becomes a headache for my endocrinologist...

I have known Berliegh for quite a while now and I have to agree with her on much of what she has to say. Not all but much of it.   Her comments re: other forum's are correct.  Soon after I began my transition, she had the pleasure of seeing a few pictures of me and she cut me to pieces. She did it with the best intentions and she was being honeat about it.  That woke me up to the reality of what others might think of you if you actually look like the dogs breakfast.

I firmly believe that it is best to be honest with yourself if you expect others to accept you no matter what you are be it gender or race because if you are not, then only problems shall be a constant upon your shoulders and we dont really need that do we?

Hi Jennifer,

Honest with myself? LOL... that is too funny. Did you read what I wrote just above the picture your commenting on?

I'll save you the trouble of looking... "not very female at all" is what I wrote. How much more honest can I get?

I try to see the positive in everyone's pictures... but I can be brutally honest... but we really don't need that do we?

Hello Amanda,  I was not commenting on any picture or on anything directly connected to you and I am very sorry if in some way I had annoyed you or caused you any angst.  My message was to relate my thoughts Re: Berliegh and her comments and I was clear as to how I came to make them.

As for 'not very female at all',  well, if I was in a position to do so, I might post a picture of my own butt but I prefer not to because my own particular issues are with what people see, i.e. my face.  Some of us are blessed with faces that melt hearts whilst others send people running for cover and I count myself among the more unappealing among us at this time and the sound of my voice might dislodge even the securest of fastenings on the Brooklyn bridge.

I felt a measure of irritation in your reply and I did not want anyone to feel irritated by anything that I contribute here. I would rather withdraw completely in order to avoid conflict here but like Berliegh, I will always be honest in what I offer to this board.   :(

IMHO...

There is a time and a place for brutally honest.. sometimes it gets you in trouble. You can be nice, AND be honest at the same time.. It's called TACT... its not something men seem to have in todays society.. Its something, perhaps, that needs to be in that thread about facial expressions I believe Amanda had posted?

:D *kissses/hugs*

I am REALLY down now.. I just weighed myself and I now weigh 157... I have NEVER weighed so much in my life  :'( I am really torn about this!!!

Oh please... you are responding about a post from Berliegh about me, saying you agree with most of what she says,
and you use the words yourself and you and you expect me to believe you were not directing that at me?

LOL... we don't really believe that now do we?

You are REAL thin for your height hun.. I am not saying that negatively, just letting you know my observation. I mean, I am a fat 157 and two inches shorter than you *tear*

Tho, I guess I have not SEEN you to know how it looks, so I can't judge.  :-X

Quote from: AlwaysAmanda on April 23, 2008, 09:26:52 AMYou may be bigger but your hip to waist ratio is almost perfect at .84.
ahem... Almost! Perfect WHR for a woman is .70. I have a long way to go. I may not ever get all the way down to .70. But with the diet I've been losing weight on, and continuing HRT, there's hope I can someday wind up well inside the normal female range. My realistic goal is to get it down to less than .80. Ideally, women should have a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.8 or less.

I'm Sicilian, which is to say basically Greek, considering our history. Wide hips run in our family too, among most of the women. They always tell each other, "Good for making babies!" Comedienne Nia Vardalos said Greek women have 3 duties: Marry Greek guys, have Greek babies, and feed everybody.

So in this respect I got somewhat of a head start. Umm... I should say a tail start. ;)
Here's what I find about compromise--
don't do it if it hurts inside,
'cause either way you're screwed,
eventually you'll find
you may as well feel good;
you may as well have some pride

Its not just the hips, its the waist,
That's what a MtF should concentrate one,
it makes a bigger and quicker impact on waist to hips ratio.

In my case, I've gained much fat on the buttocks,
and inner thigh which has compensated for lost muscle mass there
so I've got just about the same thigh and buttocks measure,
some fat is starting to creep around the back end of the buttocks
to the back of the hip, so I may gain some inches there soon.

I went from 31 inch -> 26 inch waist in 20 months.
Hips went from 39-> 38 inch (a bit lost in muscles on the side).
WHR ~ 0.68-0.69.

Exercise has a bigger impact on central, visceral fat than diet.

Hmm.. Hypatia, are you doing some sort of diet/workout program geared towards bringing out the hips?

I really want to get my HWR below an .8 as well.. but I am a bit at a loss on what to do about it..

I can afford to lose 5 lbs or so, idealy that is a good weight for me.. but anymore than that I just don't know about it..
  •

Hypatia

Dieting, yes. I started with about 30 extra pounds and now I've taken off at least 17 of them. I'm continuing until I take off all 30.

Workout? What's that?

Alright - I was mostly just wondering because I am really skeptical about doing a workout program past the one I am required to do for work. I am really scared to gain too much muscle mass and ruin the base I have.
  •

Keira

I don't get the afraid of gaining muscles, gaining muscles
in the buttocks, hips and core will not only make you lose loads
of central fat it will also make you look curvier!

If you don't exercise the upper body, you won't gain
anything there, that's all you really need.

Also, if you have an anti-T and E and your T level
is low, gaining muscles won't be that easy.
  •

Case

Hmm, I guess I need to rephrase what I was trying to get across..

I am not afraid to gain muscle, I am afraid to gain muscle definition.

I don't want my body to appear more manly now that I have it looking more female.

So I guess what I need, is to find a workout that improves on the areas that need improvement, without focusing on muscle definition in the areas that are of concern.
