Quote from: Jessica_Rose on October 11, 2024, 07:18:14 PMThanks Christine!

I have an aunt and uncle in Sarasota FL, they're OK. A good friend works at the mine near Cripple Creek CO, he's OK too. I've had a long week, and we plan to visit my dad again this weekend, so I'll be on the road. I'm also on-call at work, and some big changes are going in Saturday night. It could be a long weekend. At least the auroras were strong enough to reach central Arkansas Thursday evening! They were very faint, but using a long exposure brought them out nicely.

Love always -- Jessica Rose

Nice picture Jess!

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

I haven't posted in a while, but all is well. I have a lot on my mind. A wonderful, new friend of mine is having a difficult time right now, but she's too far away to visit. My thoughts are with her and her family. I'm hoping that posting a few photos for her may provide at least a moment of peace.

Love always -- Jess

Thanks for the compliments!

The situation with my dad has gotten worse. My dad's health continues to decline. He usually only eats breakfast, and has one or two Ensure during the day. He only wants warm drinks now, because cold drinks cause pain. His hands are always cold. He needs a walker all the time, although he occasionally tries walking around without it, which often results in a stumble or fall.

Without going into too much detail, Susan and I (mainly Susan) will be staying with my dad full-time starting Monday evening. We plan to make a few changes at his house to improve the living conditions there. He could easily afford to make the changes, but it seems he is allergic to spending any money on himself.

The range only has one good heating element. It's over forty years old and parts aren't available. We're going to get a new range. Since he can no longer travel very far, we may need to celebrate Thanksgiving at his house. A single burner range isn't going to work out.

His house uses a well for water. 'City' water is available, but as my dad would always complain 'it costs too much'. The well water has a strong smell of sulfur along with a high iron content. We plan to get the water tested and have a filtration system installed. My dad will most likely be mad about it, but safe, clean water is kind of a requirement for good health.

My dad has a rental property which has been nothing but trouble for the last five years. He has mentioned that he wants to sell it, so we'll help him get it done. He mentioned a price, but I think it's too high. I'll have to convince him to accept a more reasonable offer.

We bought tickets for a P!nk concert in Jan 2023. It has been rescheduled twice, now it's in early November. My brother and his family said they can stay with my dad for a few days so we can enjoy the show. The week prior to the concert, I plan to visit Colorado Springs for an extended electrolysis session. I'm going to be on the road a lot, so I may not be able to visit here as often as usual.

Love always -- Jess

Are you making moonshine too?

Thanks, @Gina P !

No moonshine, Christine. However, there are a few 'slow plum' trees at my dad's house. My mom used to make some great jelly with them.

I already had some pushback from my sister-in-law. She thinks buying a new range and getting a water filtration system is a waste of money. I told her that Susan and I are not going to eat out of boxes and bags or put up with foul-smelling water for potentially several months. I asked her how long would she stay in a house with those problems... oh wait, she isn't staying there. She won't stay there. She and my brother live less than 10 miles away, yet they won't stay with him. Both of them are retired. I'm still working, and live 170 miles away. Since we're the ones staying there, I think that gives Susan and I a bit more say in this situation.

Normally, we all get along well together. I'm trying not to be pushy or assert authority, although I have both a Property Power of Attorney and a Health Care Power of Attorney for my dad. We will still be a family even after my dad passes, and I'm trying not to put any strain on our relationship.

Dear Jessica:
I am very saddened to read what is going on with your brother
and his wife as it relates to your aging father's care.

Obviously you and Susan are very involved in the loving care of you and
your brother's father.
I am certain that you will do your best to preserve cordial family relations.

Thank you for sharing your update and I am wishing you well in how you
handle this possibly difficult situation

Many Hugs,
Danielle

That probably would cost less than $10k for even the best of typical kitchen equipment and iron and whole house carbon or localized filters for a house.  Maybe far less.  Maybe half, installed and delivered,  Get at least two estimates for each plumbing item.  Reverse osmosis may be another option for some water conditioning too.

Ask the experts!  A range you could probably get at LOWE's or Home Depot or many other places.

Yes, fix it up if the money is in the budget.  No one should get ill or disgusted just by being there giving loving care.  I think your will keep a good relationship with your family members too.

Lets hope its not "spending our inheritance" reason for their actions , when you say range do you just mean what we in the UK would call a cooker? Oven with rings on top or what we call a range is a large cast iron oven powered by wood/coal or oil/gas that also does the hot water.
