OK, y'all got me curious!

Just now, I went and measured myself. No change. 5 feet, 11.5 inches. < sigh >

In January, I'll have been on HRT for six years, and that was also the last time anyone checked my height.

My dad says that the reason I am tall is all those days as a teen, out in the horse corral shoveling manure in the summertime. All that sunshine and fertilizer must have done something.  ;D

Lori: lol your last sentence  :D

I've been looking at some academic studies and there seems reasonable evidence that estradiol has an effect on ligaments. This meta study is a useful resource: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/03635465241310145

So even if the bones don't change, then as well as the tilt and posture issues mentioned above by several of you, the connecting tissues including cartilage and ligaments may well do, thus affecting the overall muscular-skeletal structure. It may explain why certain injuries are more prevalent in females than males e.g. ACL ruptures.

It appears that some of these changes may be associated with the hormone relaxin.

I'll add a caveat here: I'm not a medic or medical scientist and I've only been flicking through various sources.

5'11" to 5'9" !! I didn't think it was possible but found it true. Age, pelvic tilt, hormones, I don't care the reason just happy for the results. And Lori, I spent most of my life shoveling @#$*.

Speaking of height, How high did you pile that stuff?  LOL

Always stay cheerful, be polite, kind, and understanding. Accepting yourself as the woman you are is very liberating.  Never underestimate the appreciation and respect of authenticity.  Help connect a person to someone that may be able to help that person.  Be brave, be strong.  A TRUE friend is a treasure.  Relationships are very important, people are important, and the sooner we all realize that the better off the world will be.  Try a little kindness.  Be generous with your time, energy, wisdom, and resources.   Inconvenience yourself to help someone.   I am a brown eyed, brown haired woman.

Quote from: Tills on Yesterday at 09:23:20 PMOooh, running! I hadn't factored that in either. I have done a stack of running. I used to train up to 120+ miles a week and made a reasonable fist of marathon times (2hrs 45 mins at the age of 50). I hadn't thought of that as another factor. I swapped running for hiking about 5 years ago and try to get out for at least 2 hours a day. In the light of the above replies I was reading about cartilage compression which seems to be an issue with prolonged running.

And as has been mentioned, gravity :)

WOW Girl!

120 a week!... my peak period was around 70 miles a week... Keeping things in the 20-30 range these days! 🏃♀️💕💕💕💕

Let go of the armor that you have worn for a lifetime, to serve the expectations of others and, to protect the woman inside... She needs protection no longer.... That sounds a much more sensible amount of mileage.

It was a bit of a mad time for me. I wasn't just running but running away. Then a coach had a bet with someone that he could take an amateur aged 50 and train them to run a 2h45 marathon and I became the guinea pig  :D

Soon after that I slowed right down, re-oriented my life, and began transitioning.

I loved running. It's a great feeling isn't it? I used to love getting out in the country and slotting into the rhythms of breathing. But I definitely overdid the training.

Hey Girl!

It was my running away and distraction for a long time too, along with surfing.. I had often tended in the past to get a bit carried away with the mileage... If I felt good and added on an extra mile or two... that was my new baseline and if I didn't match that distance from then on, or add to it, I felt guilty! 😅 These days I just let myself run what I feel like running... I put on my music and enjoy the beauty of coastal trail and forested paths!

I agree with you gals that running was an escape, a running away. Whenever I needed a burst of speed, like when approaching a finish line, I would imagine my enemies right behind me and ready to grab me. That boost of adrenaline was like kicking in the afterburners.

When I was in high school, my track coach was also the football coach. He said I was going to be his "secret weapon". I had height and speed over most of the other kids, so I was perfect as a receiver. Then, I got wrapped around a goalpost and injured my knee.

I was on crutches for six weeks, and I had lost my speed after that. I dropped track, but the coach moved me to middle linebacker. I am not built like a linebacker (far from it), but my height allowed me to watch the ball and call the play, which is the MLB's job. A few months later, I left the state and went to live with my dad in Colorado.
