this is my newest painting... it is 99.9% done and i wanted to share it here first.
most of my paintings have little "real" meaning. they were a way to escape my mothers terminal illness. i wanted to create beauty in a time when there was so much darkness in my life. the flag girl paintings, two so far... and the sketch eariler in this post, all represent a political view and love for america. the first was done after my mothers death and 9/11. in it the girl.."america" is naked and trying to cover herself with the flag, while the flag has lost its colors and does a poor job covering her. there is the clouds of destruction surrounding her and the only source of light and warmth is from above, off canvas.
meaning: in short, after the destruction of 9/11 and also the passing of my mother, that patriotism would not cover our pain and nakedness, but the power of faith, love and hope.
old painting:flag girl

the sketch is similar. but represents the sadness caused by the internal destruction of america and our civil liberties.
sketch: flag girl 2

the newest painting is a call to stand against the evil that has happened since 9/11. it hasnt happened yet... hopefully things will change come november.

"america" has fashioned the flag into a semblance of clothing.. and the colors have returned as she gathers the courage to stand and fight for her future.
newest painting: flag girl 3 "taking back america" (24"x16")
