I've heard that Estrace pills are better dissolved under the tongue rather than swallowed, to be absorbed into the bloodstream directly, to bypass the liver and deliver more in each dose. But the instructions on my prescription just say to "take by mouth." Is sublingual a better way to take these pills? I've been sort of halfway dissolving them and then washing them down, since I'm not sure which way is better, but I figure at least I don't lose anything by dissolving them in my mouth before swallowing?

Are we to assume you don't have a doctor or pharmacist to ask this question to?

Mine say the same thing.  But I have heard that you can take them sublingual.  And that is suppose to be better.  I have not tried it with these, but I have others that say to place under tongue.

Any medication taking orally increases the load on the liver and hence increases the risk of problems. Letting tablets dissolve slowly under the tongue does reduce the risk.

Interms of Safety Transdermal patches > Injections > Oral tablets

Just dont try it with Premarin.

if your above 40 then sublingually is really the only way to go as oral pills are considered a much higher risk than patches and gel, injections for DV

if your going to take oral then id seriously only recommend taken sub too. Why not another method guys they are really not that great a delivery system hense their high dosages compared to the other methods.

wow, a title with three words, one of which i know.

First of all, the risk, even swallowed, even over 40, is LOWWWWWWWWW
Only non bio identicals like ethinilestradiol or Premarin induce a significan liver load.

Also, the reason for bypassing the liver is not because it loads it,
using tylenol is a much bigger treat to the liver than that,
its because the
byproducts of processing estrogen produce clotting agents which may induce DVT.
Again, that's unlikely with bio-identicals, especially if the dose is low.

Estrace works very work sublingually. Often, they don't mention it on the packaging
because every new mode of administration requires FDA testing and since estrogen
is such a generic medication, there's little money in that, so no company will
be for retesting for sublingual administration.

Also, the reason they promote pills instead of sublingual is that there is a higher compliance
in taking medication through pill form than having to hold a pill 5-10 minutes under your
tongue. Compliance is important in medication taking and people want their meds not
to take part of their day to administer.

If you want the pill to disolve quicker, abrade the coating with the tongue and then
let it disolve.

you always know alot on these things everywhere ive read it says avoid oral over 40 so thats interesting to know, my regime is darn expensive and i wanted to swap over back to oral but being close to 40 its put me off with all the talk of DV.

i might haveto look back into it myself, wasnt trying to scare anyone off just passing on what i had read on a fair few places.

Watson Laboratories makes their estradiol in micronized form so it dissolves much better under the tongue, btw.  Some of the others take a lot longer.

Can't argue with the logic there.

Mind dissolve pretty quickly. *shrugs* I have no idea what people are talking about when they mention a coating, mine don't have any coating at all. Mine is usually gone in a minute. It goes pretty fast.

I've read the studies and sublingual absorption works very well.

But the methods used in the studies are not the same methods used by members on these boards.

While 17Bestradiol was extensively tested, it was used in dropper form, not pill form.  As such there is no telling how much these studies actually relate to what we can do with the pills we're given.

The drops were put in an alcoholic solution to maximise immediate absorption.  Not put in hardform pills with various fillers and dyes and sugars.

Basicly, I've yet to see a study based on the absorption of PILLS under the tongue.

Oh well, at any rate I'm switching to injected Delestrogen in a few days. No need to wonder about that!
