I have been using walmart's brand Minoxidil for 4 months with great results and I also apply it to my hairline and it is growing back there.
also some of the vellus hair on my hairline is now gaining length and color. I am amazed at the results I have got from minoxidil.
And although I understand that it is stated that the hair will stop growing if I stop using it, I am not sure that I really believe that, at least not with having chemically altered Hormones remember they claim that it doesn't work on hairlines, well it is working on mine, or is it? the reason I say this is because I am certain that I was losing my hair because of androgenetic alopecia so the culprit is DHT. when I started hormone therapy, by six months into it, my hair (or lack of I should say) on my crown was growing back. when I noticed this I was curious how that was possible and I learned all that I could about DHT's effects on hair. I believe that most of my hair follicles in the affected areas were not yet completely destroyed by DHT but rather in a dormant catagen phase where DHT just kept beating them to death. Now with a significant reduction in DHT from the Meds, which In my case is permanent I don't think that discontinuing Minoxadil will be an issue because of the lack of DHT. I do not plan to stop using minoxidil any time soon but I wanted to point out that it was not the cause of the return of my hair growth.... so why do I use it then? well it is believed by many including myself that minoxidil works by causing hair to cycle into its anagen phase of growth regardless of the phase it is currently in so I use it as kind of a booster. when I do stop using minoxidil my hair will likely cycle but I should have healthier follicles at that point, I hope.
my current hair mix is this:
for growth
2 tablespoons of miconazole Nitrate 2%
2 tablespoons of capsaicin 0.1%
2 milliliters of minoxidil 5%
the claims are that miconazole nitrate being that it is an antifungal stops any fungus that may be growing on the scalp like dandruff
and increases oxygen to the scalp.
I use capsaicin to stimulate blood flow, it is known that it increases the benifits of minoxidil.
once I put this stuff on I felt it. the capsaicin really gives my head a warming tingle that lasts anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes.
it has a greasy texture and is not the easiest to get on your scalp without getting it in your hair, gives me that wet hair gel look that
i'm not used to but I deal with it. I will check in 1 month to see if there are any signs of growth but give it 3 months before I decide to continue or not. I will post my results.
Kisses....Nicole
