Excerpt:

Lawmakers took another step Wednesday toward putting a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage on the Pennsylvania ballot.

The state Senate approved the proposed amendment 38-12.

Pennsylvania already has a law defining marriage as between a man and a woman. But Sen. Jane Orie and other Republicans warned that without a constitutional amendment, a judge could act on a legal challenge and effectively legalize same-sex marriage or civil unions.

I'd rather vote for a constitutional amendment to ban bigoted, ignorant, "let's legislate my personal theocracy" senators.

I second that.  They are taking away freedom of religion.

They are definitely trampling on basic human rights.  I firmly believe that humans rights should never be voted on.

"Screw em!"

LOL Being a PA resident The law in itself pisses me off....But Looking at the brighter side I don't need a goverment or society to proclaim and document my undying love & commitment for a person.

And There are other "Legal" ways of getting & ensuring the same kind of reconigition & rights for my spouse has if we weren't "by law" a same sex couple.

To me Legal marriage is just a piece of paper which most people abuse and don't appreciate....
Maybe if they let same sex marriages the divorce rate would go down!!! IRony

But then we run the risk of not being so over-populated. :o  There would be more resources to share between people and stuff wouldn't be so expensive.  Life on this earth would end as we know it.  ::)  What would we ever do then?

I think I just broke the sarcasm meter again

Yea, I live in New Hope, which is about as liberal as liberal can possibly get. We have a drag race up main street every halloween... and I"m not referring to cars.

I'm reminded, however, every time I visit my parents out near Altoona... where everyone drives a pickup, the first day of deer season is a school holiday, people walk down the street carrying their shotguns (hey, it's hunting season!), and it's not "soda," it's "pop." And we don't wash, we "warsh up" for dinner. Sorry, not dinner, we "supp." At noon.

I agree with you 100% there Chynna. I don't need a peice of paper either to legalize my marriage and undying love and commitment to another pertson. And you're absolutely right, there are other ways of to make it legal.

Chynna, you'd have my vote if I lived in PA!

Heck, I'd vote for you even if I weren't a resident if I could get a video of Rick Santorum's face when he finds out he lost to you.  >:D

Barrie, my boyfriend has proposed to me and we'll be getting married in a few months. He told me that he can't wait to put a nice rock on my finger!  :) We'll be flying out to Las Vegas to a small little chapel to santify our marriage. When two people are in love, it's so exciting!

Yeah , I know what I said before, but in this case, I just want to make it legal.

Wow, I didn't know Las Vegas allowed that (I just looked it up).  Congratulations and you're not even fulltime yet ;).  Better get cracking.

Thanks for the congratulations. Melissa, as for going full time, I'm quickly working on that and I should be starting in July. We're not planning the wedding until September. Alls invited.

Have you chosen a date for going fulltime.  I'm starting in July as well, tentatively on July 17.

What a pack of jackholes! >:(

I really don't see how it's any of the government's business on whom marries whom except for tax and documentation purposes.

I think that it's laughable that the conservatives declare that they want to keep the union between man and woman sacred.  Now, come on!  Nobody's been keeping it sacred since at least Henry VIII!  And theocracies are scary things, I payed attention in my history classes!  I hope this never replaces our democracy.

As for amending the constitution, somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't think of a single amendment that actually takes away a citizen's right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

The only amendment that restricted any freedoms was the 18th Amendment, Prohibition, which banned alcohol.
That amendment was, of course, later repealed.

Hey Melissa, that is so wonderfully COOL!!!  :) ;) :) ;) I'm planning on going full time  July 15. Everything should work out in my favor as well!  :) ;) :) ;) It's really so nice to be finally moving forward.

More power to us!
