Er, not really, it's just a Scots surname (and one that used to be a patronymic byname). According to Black's
The Surnames of Scotland, MacCay and MacKay are English spellings of the Gaelic
Mac Aoidh, 'son of Aodh'. Aodh, in turn, is often considered a Gaelic variant of Hugh, although that's just because they sound similar. Of course, in America it's quite normal to use surnames as given names, but personally I wouldn't consider the MacSomeone type of names very good choices for girls. Now NicKay, on the other hand...

As a general rule, 'name your baby' type of books and web sites are not very trustworthy if you really want to know where a name comes from. That's not really their purpose; the main thing is to give ideas for people who are about to name their baby.
