Well first off I gotta say, Daniela Sea is haaaaawwwwtttt. To me anyway. I love how she's so androgynous and beautiful.

But more to the point!

I originally started watching L Word yonks ago, though it was usually just periodical. If it was on TV and I happened to catch it that is. Moira/Max came on around the same time I was starting to consider myself FtM rather than simply androgyne, and so his character appealed to me greatly.

Near as I can tell, his is the only FtM character thats been on scripted television.

I was wondering if other guys watch The L Word too? And like me, watch it more for Max than the other characters. Speaking of which, I find myself connecting less and less with the lesbian/dyke identity and more with a transman identity that is not lesbian or male and is something completely other.

I find it harder to put myself in these womens heads... because I no longer feel that way physically. I suppose I feel more like a voyeur rather than a participant. Another odd thing is that I'm starting to enjoy... straight people romance. HOWEVER, I usually imagine the dude is trans like me. A good example would be I like to pretend Jayne from Firefly/Serenity is a Transguy ;) lol

So whats the point of this topic? I guess I'm wondering mostly about, how do you other transguys like Max? Have you experienced a change in connecting to the queer female communities/characters? And do you pretend male characters are trans like I do?

I looooove the L Word. Watched every single season, every episode, about three times. And favourite episodes probably more. All the women are so damn hot, even the older women. MILFs, every single one. Have a major crush on Alice and Tina. They're so cute! ^^ And Jenny with short hair was incredibly hot, although her character is somewhat iffy. And Helena is seeeexy. ;D

Anyways.

I do not like Max's character. He is extremely stubborn half the time, and extremely timid the other half. Makes it hard for me to connect with him, as I am neither.

I've never really pretended male characters were trans...thats and interesting way of thinking about it. Usually I tend to identify more with male characters regardless. One of the first episodes with Max-then-Moira where he was in the fancy restaurant with the weird food made a lot of sense to me, just feeling that out of place sometimes.

I guess I don't feel a lot of connection to the lesbian community since I'm not in a relationship atm, and even when I was it was long distance, so I didn't really get 'into' it that much. Yeah, I'm sheltered  :D.

I agree that Max is a hottie!

I started to watch the L Word but that stupid Jenny would always make me switch it off. But once Max joined the cast - I started watching it again (What can I say.... Im a perv  :D)

I also loooovee the L word too! And Max/Moria was  the first time after a few years I ever watched
someone who was FTM. I wanted to know what the binder was.. and the pack and pee.. and
sex thingy too!

It opened my eyes..

I can conect to these ladies just the same as if they where male!

Plus I wish I looked like her or Shane!

They cancelled the L word didn't they?

I was totally in love with Carmen too! Bloody hott!!!!!

I've never watched the L Word, but I have seen Firefly.

Funny you should point out my favourite character.
Don't be scared to fly alone, find a path that is your own
Love will open every door it's in your hands, the world is yours
Don't hold back and always know, all the answers will unfold
What are you waiting for, spread your wings and soar

Why did they cancel Firefly?  Why?  Why? (anguished screaming)

The story of Max is the only reason I still watch the L word. (My girlfriend has the DVD's.)

I've just now started watching the L-word, mostly because I've worked through a few of my hang ups at being perceived as a lesbian. I like the show so far, though I haven't seen much of max... Mostly I just wanna find out how to get some facial hair like his. Looks damn good. lol

I have never even heard of the show.  Is it only on DVD?  I suppose I could try to rent it if anybody had it.  Hate to buy something I have neve heard of for fear I will hate it or really just not care for the show and feel I wasted my money.   Since so many seem to like it though, I will have to look for it when I get done traveling and settle back down in the US.

I'm sure that your local vid store has it on DVD season by season.

I'd heard bad things about the FTM character on the L Word, that he caused a lot of misconceptions about tranguys among people who watched the show with little prior knowledge of the trans community.  Something about T making him really aggressive, which then contributes to people thinking that will happen to themselves or their trans partners.

I haven't actually seen the show though, but I keep almost renting season DVDs whenever I'm at Blockbuster.  I also kindof shy away from it because two different people have told me I look like Shane, which they mean as a compliment, but...um, no.  She's cute, but much more feminine than I hope I look.

When Max started transitioning he was getting hormones illegally through a guy called Billy and was taking way too much ), thus the reason for his aggression and mood swings. In season 4 (I think) he goes to a transguys meeting and when he tells them what he's been doing (ie his dosage) they were all "wtf man, do you have any friends left??!!" and they basically told him to stop being an idiot and see a specialist to get prescribed T legally.

Though I don't deny he had rocky beginnings, I think his character has improved over the seasons and was much more likeable by Season 5.

I HATE the L word.  I think its because a. I don't like that type of show in general b. my friends were obsessed with it and ALWAYS watching it (and I lived with them...) c. I wish life was as easy as just being a lesbian which is why my friend obsession was probably even more frustrating to me(as both of them are lesbians and I was like GOD DAMNIT WHY CAN'T I JUST BE A LESBIAN... oh and I was dating one of them so yea......) Totally made me feel extreme uncomfortable in my own skin.

From what I saw of the Max character it was interesting but not interesting enough for me to suffer through the rest of the show.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I never knew the L word existed until I lived with two friends who are female and straight. They turned me on to it (ironic I know  :P). I like Shayne's character not sure exactly why but I am just drawn to that character. I have not been watching it for awhile so I have not seen Max, but I have read a lot about who Max is in real life. Very interesting and ballsy in the entertainment world. The show is good for people to see. So is a movie I just watched on Lifetime, "Prayers for Bobbie" watch it if you haven't. I would like that movie to be shown to all everyone.

The make of T I was first taking did exactly what happened to Max in the L word.. so when
I watched the episode it all became so real. They had written that very well in my view.
