Another young 'un here. I've had glasses since I was ~7. Needed them since I was about 4 (it didn't get caught until I was in first grade.) My prescription is somewhere around -8.something with astigmatisms. I got bifocals at age 30 for computer stuff, so I switch back and forth between pairs. I was *not* about to have to slide my eyeballs down my nose to read the screen. It annoys me to no end when my glasses slide down my nose. Not to mention being in IT, I spend most of the day looking at a screen.
I tried contacts once...it didn't work out for me. After having worn something in front of my eyes for nearly 20 years (at the time) I couldn't deal with the fact that I could now *feel the air* move and hit my eyes. I later developed allergies which make wearing contacts impossible.
Glasses don't bother me. They don't interfere with my life and after all this time, I'm pretty much used to them. I prefer wire frames with spring hinges so I can get them on under my helmet

Transition lenses were the best thing I ever got. No more looking for dorky clip-on sunglasses.
My sister likes her contacts though, so it really depends on the person.
