Sitting with crossed legs is better than legs spread wide apart. Putting on makeup takes me too long to do it in public. I guess showing your naval depends on how pretty it is. The most disgusting thing I've seen is overwieght women with pants that show the butt crack from behind. What about mothers who sometimes breast feed in public? In some countries it is not uncommon.

And what's wrong with breast feeding in public? A baby needs to eat too.

I agree.  That's what breasts are for.

As long as it is done discreetly and with a minimum of fanfare I really have no problem with it.

* Swear like a drunken sailor.

I'm a former Marine.  I don't use what I learned in normal daily conversation.  But under extraordinary situations, the phrases I learned constitute a 'tactical nuclear' arsenal (with great power comes great responsibility.)

* Drink heavily.

"Driving the porcelain bus", "Making a sidewalk pizza", et.al, are only fun the first few times.  Glad I got that over early in my 'tweens (late teens/early twenties.)

* Are middle-aged but wear the attire of a teenage girl.

Lapses are understandable (but not 'acceptable') for those who are in the throes of their second puberty

* Finish eating your food before all the men who are sharing the same table with you.

Guilty as charged...  It's very hard to unlearn a habit reinforced by 20 years of military service.  Any tips on how to slow down?

#3 is just stupid unless you're sitting like a linebacker.

And the bare midriffs aren't classy? Well honey, we aren't all on our way to the opera. No, it isn't classy, but if you've got the body for it, there's a place for it. Not all of us are Julia Sugarbaker. At least not all the time.  :P

Someone dear to me once told me that men don't savor their food because their main objective is to get full and not actually taste what they eat.  She went on to say that "the relationship between food and a woman should be like foreplay, slow, sweet, delicate.  A woman should enjoy every bite, every taste and every move."  ;)

My humble advice would be to observe other women in social situations.  During dinner, going at the same pace with other women (talking, drinking, cutting your food, taking your time, telling a joke, whatever) is the best advice.  There will always be someone (usually a man) who finishes his food first, but you don't want to be that someone!   ;D

Oh lord I must be a man... once I start eating, I'm eating until it's all gone.

No pauses. No drinking. No speaking, unless I am spoken to... as that would just be rude.

I don't eat all that fast though... if that helps lol?

All my life I've been famously last to finish a meal. Once I was taken to a Japanese restaurant where they cook the food in front of you and the meal is served in courses. I, naturally, couldn't keep up and felt unpleasantly pressured to eat faster. I never went back.

The speed with which I finish eating is proportional to the company I have for the meal :P

Hmm... well, to add to that, maybe it's not a super hot idea to sit down to portions that you need climbing gear, oxygen equipment and a team of Sherpas to scale.

Oh god, i am sooo busted. I have always had the appetite of a longshoreman, and that didn't change one bit. it embarasses me. I purposely order less, when I am out with friends, than I would really like to have. I eat like a fricking horse, it's horrible.

The old rule of thumb was: Never eat anything bigger than your head.

I have always had the appetite of a longshoreman
Oh, Bud for breakfast, Bud for lunch, and for dinner, more Bud?

Phooey on that. That's why they make doggie-bags/boxes!! So major appetite and slow eater, doubly famous? You should also be famous for taking out stacks of doggie boxes for the fridge!! LOL!!

I'm always the last done and the slowest eater and have been for years. Ian and Cat often need to sit at the table extra minutes for me to finish. Besides, if you eat slowly and chew slowly it's easier to tell when you're sated. The mesages from the tummy keep up with the lock mechanism on your hunger that way.

Tink's advice I find spot-on. But I was doing that long before I was transitioning. My parents used to complain about my slow eating.

I used to eat very slowly when I was a child as well, but that wasn't because I was "ladylike" but because I was a stubborn little bitch who didn't want to eat her veggies.  Mom would be doing the dishes with a mirror in front of her watching me eat.  "EAT, EAT DAMN IT" Actually she didn't say "damn it" but she said other things  ;D, and there I was feeling nauseated with my mouth full and crying my eyes out!

Aw!! baby Nichole :icon_hug: s baby Tink!!

OK, some of mine was that as well especially the couple of times she made tuna hot dish! Yuck, I still hate the odor of hot tuna. Even steaks!

Nichole

Oh, and just so everyone's clear, like Tink I was not saying that slow eating was a baby-marker that I was female. I just have always been a slow eater. I think that proves that I'm a slow eater.

Her main dish was: Cauliflower croquettes!  :eusa_sick: The funny thing is that I learned to love them and nowadays I can't get enough.  I guess I am getting old!  :P

Actually those sound goood!! Although I have to admit that Baby Nichole tended to turn her nose up at those sulfery veggies as well: cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. I hated their smells. Then I learned that contrary to accepted Southern cooking mores of my family you didn't have to boil the darned stuff till it reeked!! :)

That's made a huge difference with all three. :)

Yeah, but it seems like everyone in the south thinks not only do they have to be way over cooked into mush, but they also have to be smothered in fake cheese or cream sauce.  I've always wondered why bother fixing it if you have to overwhelm the flavor with something else.

My favorite way to eat cauliflower is raw.  But my close second is as a substitute for mashed potatoes.  (I can't eat the starches.)   You cook it well and blend with some nonfat sour cream until smooth.  It has a taste like mashed potatoes with a little extra peppery spice.  It is also good to sprinkle a little bit of grated sharp cheddar and chives on top.

Little off topic.  But Deep fried and raw.

I don't care how young or well-toned you are, no one needs to ever bare their midriff. It isn't 1999 anymore.
