it's illegal, but that's not to say no one does it.  it's pretty common.

Do you mean loans that go to pay directly for your education? That money is sent directly from the lender to your school. You won't have a chance to spend that on surgery.

Or do you mean loans that some students get to pay for other expenses you'll inure while in school, such as books, food, clothing? I've never had a loan like that, but I suppose you could spend that on surgery, legality notwithstanding. Check the terms of any loan like that to see if it might be allowed.

Well, that may not work, but if you're getting loans you may get workstudy.  Workstudy money does NOT have to pay for your education.

Well here in the UK most students piss their loans up the wall!

Your idea seems far more sensible to me Jason.

I could get $1000 course related costs each year of study... and I spent it on upgrading my computer and other miscellaneous stuff that didn't really have anything to do with school XD

you should put that toward your schooling.

I know when I went to a top surgery meeting it was a popular way the guys funded their top surgery (probably half did or plan on using this method). The other popular method mentioned was credit cards.

Yup that's what I plan on doing. At my school they wrote the checks directly to me. I go to a school without dorms so it's supposed to be for paying rent, buying food, just normal living expenses but I've purposely not been spending much money so I can have that to help with surgery.

I know of one friend who was pretty slick. But he was a business major. He took his loan and grant money and made investments that did really well. Well enough to pay off his loans, drop out of school and become a multi millionaire. Funny how after folks become rich you never see them again

I used my savings account.  Apparently they're a nearly extinct species of fiscal responsibility.

That is what I am going to do, use my savings account, I mean.  I have the cash, just need to pick a surgeon and a date, though that will have to wait for next summer.

So, why would you want to be one more freak with some surgery, but zero education, so you could whine, and bitch at us that 'no one will hire you.'  Yeesh.  I get enough of that.

Being 'who you really want to be' if that means living in doorstops on the street, or even worse, back home with mom and dad (who were having a party when you left.  How happy must they be?)  And then, you wonder about acceptence.

Look, a good job, with a college degree you will be able to pay for that surgery in a few months.  The other choice is to be paying for it though out a lifetime.

Dumb choices are just that.

And. .  .  .  If I knew, I'd have to bust you on it. So don't dare tell your professors.  They have an obligation far beyond your life, like to their life.  Don't expect them to pimp that off for you.

I have decided to go to Brownstein (August 11th) for my surgery and one of the reasons  (there were a few) I was leery was that I will have to put the travel on a Credit Card. I can pay all the surgery expenses from savings. In the end I decided I can pay it off in a few months and I need to have it done right  (the surgery) the first time.  But still really hard for me to be OK with.  I will probably have the travel money saved up by then also and it will have been worrying for nothing!

Who said that because someone uses their money for surgery they're not going to get a good education? I have 10 years after I graduate college to pay the loans off, I'm sure I can handle it especially considering I've barely even touched that money yet. My school could be a bit different than others though, because as I said there's no dorms and it's really cheap to go to school there. They give you financial aid with the expectations that you'll be using it for life expenses as we have to live off-campus and buy a lot of things that other colleges provide.

I know you weren't talking to me directly or anything and I don't want to seem like I'm attacking you, but I take offense to this as my education is something I take very seriously. I have all A's and plan on keeping it that way until I graduate. I just fail to see the connection between someone using their loans for surgery and not being able to get a proper education. Either way the money is going to get spent somehow. Colleges know this and that's why they give you time to pay them back.

It does not mean they will not get an education, it just makes it less likely.

And getting 'A's in school.  So what.  So did I.  All the way through.  And the people I got a PhD with make less than I do with a union card.  So it goes.

The only way I'll be using a loan to pay for it is if I can pay for college with financial aid and or grants.
If I can't get use a student loan after paying for school im just gonna have to wait.
