So I've seen MtFs talk about FFS a lot, and yesterday on the train I was observing some profiles of random dudes. I could never see much of a difference but now I do--the thing I noticed most was the brow and how prominent it can be on some males. I was just wondering, do FtMs ever have any kind of masculinization surgery on their faces? Or does it become unnecessary with T? I did a quick search but only found a little thing about jaw implants or some such, which isn't what I was looking for at all.

Hard tissue such as cartilage and bone will not feminize/masculinize post puberty.  So there will be little change to your profile as you progress on T.

I'm more familiar with FFS and have had my brow shaved.  But I *think* that my facial surgeon, Dr. Z., does do MFS as well.  But it is probably much less frequent than FFS.

If you are truly curious, drop a line to some of the facial / plastic surgeons and see what they say.  I would think that it is likely they could.  Reconstructive facial surgery I would think would have something that would apply.

Be aware, though, facial surgery is not for the faint of heart.  While I am very pleased with the results, it was like "bobbing for french fries".

"bobbing for french fries" -- ouch!

I'm not transitioning at current, I was just curious if this was done. I would love to have that kind of brow. Makes one look mysterious and... well, guyish, I guess. >_<

Had I know that, maybe I could have given you mine.

Actually though, while you won't gain any hard tissue growth, your face will have some masculinization through the loss/redistribution of some facial soft tissue.  Also your skin texture will become a bit rougher as well, so you may become a bit more "mysterious"...

most FTMs don't need it as testosterone masculinizes our faces...  though some could ABSOLUTELY use it.  IMO, it should be more common.

I totally agree, I used to have a really petite female nose all my friends used to want it. Its defiently more wider now. Still a bit girly but meh..

My face has definitely changed with T. I would never consider having FFS done. Maybe my teeth done but other than that nothing :)

I'm not up on surgical procedures and such, but wouldn't that be tough? How would one add a brow ridge? And I assume there would be jaw implants or something.

They also have cheek implants, I don't see why they could not construct brow implants.

The hormones you fellas take works like a miracle compared to what the ladies take. The effects are noticeable much sooner and can change the body in ways that a MtF would need surgery to achieve. Basically, you can expect your face to masculinize on hormones much, much better than a MtF can expect to feminize. Lucky bastards.

There's no reason to have facial surgery if you're ftm, in my opinion. T makes a ton of difference, but I suppose some people will just never be happy until they look EXACTLY like they envision themselves looking. And of course they can do surgical brow enhancement; there are a million types of implants, bone grafts, etc. that they can use. But why do it? Personally, I'm happy with the changes I've got after a little over 10 months on T... and I haven't even had as much as I should have, considering I had to go off T twice for long periods of time.

As the potato lady said (:P), T makes some near-miraculous changes. We're lucky. Why screw it up by going under the knife?

You wouldn't want it. First of all, T does a lot of it, and guys look much better looking with a little femininity in their facial features, have you noticed, most hot men have feminine features.

I have to admit that I would consider getting my Adam's apple augmented if I were already going under the knife anyway...that is, if there were a safe, well-established procedure for it. Why the heck doesn't T make our Adam's apples grow? What is up with that?

I would most likely never, ever get any kind of surgery done on my face. I was curious. I don't have penis envy; I have brow envy. =p

My brother had a chin implant, so yes, guys do get stuff done.  And I never even noticed.  Apparently it bothered him enough to fix, but fixing it didn't change his appearance (to me, anyway) at all.  Even now that I know he has it, I can't see it.

The difference is that mtf's might not be able to pass well without FFS if they have very masculine features. Men with female features aren't ever really questioned as not being male, while females with male features are scrutinized a little more closely. It's a bit of a non-issue for us.

If enough want it they will make and use it. Never fear. :)

It made mine grow. When my voice changed, my mother thought I was getting a goiter. Also less fat on the neck makes it more prominent, so the fat distribution helps too.

Mine feels alot harder can't really tell because of the fat.. But hopefully I should soon get a good look at it!
