I will giving a talk in June with my bible study group about being transgender and a crossdresser. I was asked months ago to do this and have decided to do so. I'm research articles and resources which I can use. I'm looking forward to speaking to the group.

Good luck, Gennee.

It will be a difficult group I think.  But you would know them better than I.

Actually, this is an lgbt fellowship that I attend twice a month. I'm the lone trans-gender person. We have a great relationship. They want to know more about what it is to be trans-gender.

Just to get this out of the way I was raised Catholic but now I'm sort of a Buddhist/atheist; but I am wondering, how does being Trans relate to or affect you as a Christian?

Good luck Gennee, hope it goes well :)

Can't really give you much advice what with being Muslim but you have my respect for sticking with your faith.

I miss going to Mosque but I had a really bad experience many years ago here in the UK. At the time I was fairly religious and used to hang out with Tablighi Jamaat who are a fairly 'heavy' lot to put it nicely. Anyway, I was dressed male albeit with long auburn hair at the time, one day we had finished prayers and were making tea in a back room when this crazy Morroccan kid walks up to me and grabs my chest with both hands and says "I know what's wrong with you".... OMG! Couldn't have been worse if I imagined it and in front of at least twenty full on Muslim men! I was really shocked and started crying and to be honest they were very nice to me dismissing it with "he's crazy" etc. But it marked me, and as I said I've never been back to a Mosque since except once last year in Indonesia to get married again. I cut my hair, bound my chest and carried it off thank God.

I still pray and do Ramadan and try to justify it that Allah made me the way I am and knows my true identity which is female. As a female I can pray at home and that's probably the best way I trust.

Take care,

Dear Genee
That's fantastic. Many people are nervous of talking in public. Don't let it get to you. I teach, lecture and give seminars at conferences etc. If you are not use to speaking in public I get my students to talk in front of a full length mirror. When you aren't nervous of looking at yourself, you will never be nervous of others looking at you when you are speaking. The other thing to remember is that YOU are the expert.

Hope it goes well, and of course let your sisters ( and brothers) know how you are going and how it went.

Love and hugs

Being trans is a part of His plan for me.  If anything, I have seen God work in my life and in the lives of gay and lesbian people. When I accepted Chirst into my life over 35 years ago it was a life changing event. When I realized and accepted that I was trans, my heart  was filled with peace. If I didn't have Christ in my life I believe that I would still be in denial about being trans.

Gennee...I just got here and I'm reading and posting as fast as I can...hehe

anyway...I think you will do very well with your group...they are trying to learn and that is wonderful.

I have found that it is best to make some notes before speaking to a group...maybe on a 3x5 card?  I'm sure they just want to hear what is in your heart.  They want to know things like how and when did your feelings start? Did you have struggles? How did you deal with being YOU?  How is it affecting your walk with God?  Feelings are great to discuss.

I wish you well...Always...Teree
