I've been though two security clearance checks, one back in the 80s under Reagan, pre-computer age and for the most part before anyone cared near as much as they do now, and one in the early 90s for the DoE/DoD.  They not only find out everything, they find out things you didn't even know.  The power of the federal gov when it comes to getting information on people is way beyond awesome.  Make sure it all matches, and know that anything you are trying to hide, they are going to find.

Also every app/form I have ever filled out contains the line, "other names known by, including legal name changes."

The sad fact is for every 1 of us, there is probably at least a 1000 people trying to cover up something "bad" from their past.

Sadder fact, anyone who is a deep stealth existence where they are afraid of their past status being reveled are exactly what they are looking for as that's a set-up to blackmail.

I just do not write my former ''male names'' at least to healtcare people and I might get some decent treatment in private sector.

I put down my birth name because it is currently my legal name, then once I have an interview with them I tell them what name I prefer to go by

if you know your name will be on computers for others to see, i STRONGLY suggest using first initials, otherwise it WILL come back to bite you in the ass. i speak from NUMEROUS personal experiences. just because you want to go by something, MANY more peoplr than u realize will BLATANTLY refuse to call you what you prefer. i went through this same damned situation again with my hr manager today with me sitting there with her just repeatedly using male pronouns. i'm seriously trying to tell ALL of your hr is NOT always your friend, they're just as bad or worse than everyone else!!!


i'm trying EXTREMELY hard to save people from some of the crap i go through because there is no other jobs around here, it's this or unemployment.

i just wish for once at least ONE transperson would listen to me, and use my advice wisely.

or you could just change your name and be rid of the headache.

I do appreciate your advice. I didn't know it was possible to just put down your first initial. don't they check that stuff? I had to give references from old jobs and such, wouldn't they find out my name then? also I live in a pretty accepting area, I have yet to have someone just blatantly disrespect me and call me by my birth name

and yeah I am working on changing my name, I'm waiting for my birth certificate in the mail

In the meantime, you can get an updated ID in MA by having your doctor fill out a form.

Thanks Mister for the info. It shouldn't be too long before I get my birth certificate, it's only supposed to take about a week. I have a note from my therapist for the RMV to get my gender changed on my license, so I think I'll just wait til I've changed my name and get it all done at once, save money that way

omg Mekayla i am so sorry. i thought ohio would have been better about the whole name change thing. cant you get a DL in a state next to yours so you can change your name with ease?

the closest state to me would be indiana, and last i knew you had to physically live there for 30 days or six months, don't know which anymore. but either way, i don't have the money to move, let alone the 25 or more bux to buy the new license...lol and last i knew you still have to have a court ordered name change i think in all surrounding states, but i can't b sure..

oh we may have a democratic governor, and it may have voted dem in the last prez election, but most everyone in my area are straight out Religious Reich Republicans, i got seriously dirty looks from the girl behind the desk when i got my license back two years ago, she didn't address me cuz she new if she offended me in some way i'd probably have her job--for once she was smart--at least concerning her employment.  and most of the laws in this state are very successfully religiously influenced. but so i don't offend any one else, i'll quit typing in a few.

i'm about to quit offering my advice and support on this forum cuz it only seems to be not wanted by some members.
