i know that this forum usually has some very lighthearted subjects and some that hit closer to home, but i need your help.

the other day i was talking with my sister and she mentioned that the family was worried about "something" happening to me because i'm transsexual. this got me to thinking and i noticed that i haven't heard of any of us being attacked this year. am i right about this. do any of you know of a website that tracks this and if so where is it?

thank you for your help.

If it happens it seems to be reported here (and at times, even if it didn't happen) due to the diligence of our crack news team who really do a good job of finding these stories.

It has been pretty quiet this year.  Main thing is not to put yourself in situations that could turn out bad.  Much less of a problem not and each year it seems to get a bet better,  But you still have to be safe.

I think hate-crimes legislation has brought big changes in this area.  It used to be that haters felt they could get away with bashing because it was socially acceptable, no witnesses would testify, and law-enforcement would turn a blind eye.  But now, haters are looking at 20 years plus for knocking a ->-bleeped-<- down, people are anxious to testify, and law-enforcement has to act; and the haters know it.  In some ways, I think we are safer on the street than natal women.
It's easier to change your sex and gender in Iran, than it is in the United States.  Way easier.

Please read my novel, Dragonfly and the Pack of Three, available on Amazon - and encourage your local library to buy it too! We need realistic portrayals of trans people in literature, for all our sakes

Well the second has always been true.  One reason that some women show us very little sympathy, after all, male violence against women in general is not a hate crime, mostly, its called traditional marriage.

But the first part is a pure flight of fancy.  States with a death penalty tend to have higher murder rates?  Why is that?  Because such crimes are crimes of passion, committed on a whim or the spur of moment, or in a rage - no matter which of the three apply - the killer is not exactly thinking out the long range consequences of their actions so enhanced penalties do not figure into the consideration of action.

Moreover, morons who engage in such behavior tend to be as ignorant of the law as they are about everything else.

I LOL'd at that one, so true for so many. I get sick of hearing about abusive husbands or women in bad relationships who continue to put up with maltreatment. There was an article I read somewhere that a married man will live longer if he is in a good or bad marriage, but a women only lives slightly longer in a good marriage than if she hadnt been married at all, and a bad marriage shortens her life by 7-10 years(I cant recall the exact average).

I also remind GG's all the time that 40% of the women murdered in this country are killed by a husband or boyfriend. I wouldnt be surprised if its actually higher than 60% though...

Have to agree. I often have a heard time believing that harsher punishment for some crimes actually does as much to prevent it. As far as I'm concerned anybody stupid enough to do some/most of these crimes dont have the foresight to think beforehand about the consequences. But with that said I dont think society should tolerate persons who attack others easily.
