Just like anywhere, laws are made to be broken. In this case, the law will be enforced via a court case, and hopefully a fiscal settlement that sends a message to business that violations of the HRC code won't be tolerated.
Laws are only as good as the people that live under them, and Ontario has more then it's share of very open minded, live and let live people, but there's always going to be your f'tards out there to put a bad name to things. I've found nothing but open arms and civility during my transition here in Ontario.
The HRC code is also very out in the open. Employers and businesses are very aware of the protections present in this document, so this story is a bit surprising. But it did take place out in the 'boonies', ie 'cottage country', perhaps they don't practice Human Rights way out there
