After consideration, including reading the experiences of girls here, I have chosen Dr. McGinn for my SRS next year. I have an appointment set up for my initial consultation in her office on the 14th this month, and I am just curious what to expect. I do have my 2 SOC required recommendation letters but I want to make sure I ask the right questions to be as informed as possible. anyways, any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you :)

Dr. McGinn is pretty down to earth.  after all she's been there too.  Just relax and ask her anything.  You'll be in good hands.

Congrats BTW

I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. McGinn. I'm very, very happy that I chose her.

Thank you Marie that's very encouraging :) She's the closest to where I live, and I've heard a lot of good things about her. I'm satisfied I've made a good choice.

I too have the highest regard for her.

My initial consultations were over the phone, but she was forthright, honest and down to earth.  She has said that she has the best job of anyone.  As a trans woman herself, she understands what drives us and enjoys helping the community.  She is very passionate.

Ask her about 1-step vs 2-step labiaplasty.  You'll get an earful!  :D

You're in good hands!

Wow!  Congratulations.

Ask anything you need to ask.  I have heard only good things about her.  But always remember, you are the paying customer.

So very excited for you!

Thanks for the tips! Good advice to remember I am the one paying for this lol I've read her website info concerning the one or two stage procedure, but it is something I was wondering about so will definitely ask. ;)

Big congrats sis!

From what I've read and the results I've seen on her website I am seriously considering her myself.

My suggestion is not specific to talking to her ... but one good thing to do is plan out the questions that you want to discuss and then write it up.  Take that writeup with you.  In the "heat" of the moment it can be very easy to forget a question or 3 .... you want to take advantage of direct conversation with her while you can.

*IF* I get to have GRS in the next few years, I'd love to have her do the work.  Saving every day for it ;)

Thanks Cami!

And thank you Charlene for the good advice- I'm exactly the kind of person who forgets things I want to ask in the heat of the moment lol ;)

I just had my GRS with Dr. McGinn a few weeks ago. I didn't decide until after the consult. I thought I was going with Bowers, but she was booked over a year out and her office recommended Dr. McGinn to me.

I know everyone raves about their surgeons, but Dr. McGinn is wonderful, so it's hard not to be a total fangirl. I'm still recovering, but I couldn't be happier with her surgical skills, and her bedside manner was fantastic. Also, it may have been the morphine, but I was terribly impressed when she showed up to check on me at 5am one morning all perky and with perfect makeup.

Anyway, my surgery and immediate post-operative period passed without a hitch. Now I'm knee-deep in "dilation hell". Dr. McGinn's dilation schedule is fairly intimidating, so be prepared. It's 6x a day, which basically means every 3 hours from 9am to 12pm for the first 8 weeks.

Oh, another thing is -- if you're planning your surgery in Pennsylvania, Lower Bucks Hospital is not the prettiest hospital around, but the nursing staff is great. Just bring lots of reading material, or a laptop to watch DVDs. You'll spend a lot of time on your back with nothing to do, unless you bring a friend or family member along (that's what I did). The rooms have little televisions on adjustable booms, but the screens are tiny and have no DVD players or A/V plugs.

Thanks Gracie :) Everything I've heard about her is why I've chosen her in the first place. I am planning surgery in PA as it will be next Spring and she is in Key West now for the winter months. lol yes I've heard about her dilation schedule :icon_yikes: Thank you for the good advice, and congratulations on completing your surgery!

The dilation schedule may be extreme, but I think it helps you to heal faster.  I know that when I missed a scheduled time, it felt more uncomfortable the next time.

Actually she is quite beautiful, both in face and in spirit.

Yes, she, like Dr Bowers, is a post operative MTF.

Okay, yes I can confirm that Dr. McGinn is gorgeous! And, she is sharp as a tack. She's very knowledgeable and really knows her stuff, as well as being personable and easy to talk to. She even told me my voice was excellent, which made me beam from ear to ear lol

That dilation schedule does look scary- 6 times a day for the first 8 weeks, sheesh. But I finally have a definite date set for my SRS, and I couldn't be more excited! It won't be for a little while yet (next June), but I plan to hit the gym and be the healthiest I've ever been by then. I immediately went out shopping to celebrate in the little town of New Hope, PA where Dr. McGinn's office is located- there's this little Indian dress shop there that has some really dreamy outfits, hehe
