Average is about $6,000 which isn't too terrible, but still.  You know how when stuff becomes older, and they get new technology, things get cheaper, will Top surgery ever get cheaper do you think?

Probably. They'll find a way to make it efficient, less cost, etc...

And it varies doctor to doctor as well.

Maybe. Breast implants went down from when they were first introduced, or am I wrong on that?

No, they just have revision surgeries to pull 'em back up (boom-tish).  ;)

I don't think it's about the tech. I think it's got to do with the number of people wanting surgery of this type, vs the number of doctors performing it.

There just isn't as big a market for FTM top surgery as there is for breast implants. Smaller niche market. fewer surgeons, higher prices.

I could image it'd be hard to start offering TS surgery. TS people talk... a lot. We tend to stick to two or three big names in surgery and treat any unheard of surgeon as extremely dodgy until proven otherwise.

This hammering of a few surgeons can't be helping the prices, either.

I'm not saying it's "our fault" or knocking it - we just like proven results. It's perfectly normal.

There's only one surgeon on my side of my country (non-us) that I know of - and top surgery is still much cheaper than in the US... so I could be talking out my ass ;).

$6000 is pretty darned good, considering the medical industry's penchant for charging far too much for any sort of surgery (just make sure you never need a heart transplant!). That said, I've been full-time for over 3 years now, and still can't afford top surgery. Wouldn't it be nice if it were free?

With the amount of debt I have (over $150K) I'm scared I wont ever be able to afford top surgery...and it's top surgery I feel that keeps me from 'fitting' in as male (DD's). Aside from my voice I think I could pass without the lumps.
