What will happen next year? A knightship? Arise Sir Nero. Lord of Susan's. Protector of the Board.

It's against American law to take a title.  Except for Elvis, he is the King.  But really, No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

They can get some honorary deal, but I thought you had to be a British Citizen to be able to refer to yourself as "Sir Whatever".

I'm not sure, yes it varies between Commonwealth countres and most are not British citizens. I of cousre know that the USA isn't commonwealth, in any way means or forms .

I was thinking there had been an exception, I haven't gone back and checked. I'm thinking that Sir Winston Churchill was given the highest honour an American Citizen can recieve, as a complete acception. I was thinking that FDR may have recoeved an honoury knight hood at about the same time. BUT he would have not have been knighted and therefore did not bow or subject to the Queen.

I've only limited IT at home I'll check tomorrow if you cannot.

You could also be knighted by a Lord as being accepted as their male heir, even if a 'bastard'.
And of course Lordships are now given away for anyone who donates enougth money to the parlimentary group in power.

Sir Tekla, Lord of the Stage.

Actually this could be a whole new thread.

Sir Tekla, Lord of the Stage

Actually, the old theater lore had stagehands as the princes of the stage, so I'm just the Princess.  And Lord would be a downgrade dear, most of the time anymore I'm the stage manager and as anyone in theater will tell you, stage managers are god - everyone else just thinks they are.  But I do love that moment when I have the band standing there next to me, the follow spots on, the sound on, the lighting ready to go, the audience ramped up to a peak of excitement, everyone on the clear-com waiting for me to say "OK."  And in fact, at that moment, I take a moment just for myself to make everyone wait a second or two for me.  It's delicious.  And then I say, "Let It Rock, dim house lights, go."

Then I usually try to get as far away from the racket&hum as I can.

YAYNESS!!!!!!!
Mister Nero....you must be on cloud 9!
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

But surely, you've heard of Emperor Norton.

tekla

I personally know and work with His Imperial Majesty Emperor Norton II, who hangs at Specs, on Columbus, right off Broadway (what's a broad weigh?  Oh, about a 120 pounds.)  But, that's just me, and I'm not too fond of American Law.  But, then again, it would be a cold day in hell when I would take knee before any inbreed Euro jerkwad either.  In the bar it's fun, in real life, it's just sad.

Thanks my friends. I love the fact I have so many people to share it with.
It's sort of a strange feeling, being legally myself. Almost like I can't believe I've been allowed to do it. Like I'm half afraid someone's going to say 'Wait, you can't just name yourself anything you want, you can't have an M'.  Surreal.
