That program has opened my eyes to making a plan and sticking to it.
I have many options that i must take into account including my sons feelings and the type of job i do.
After all i would not want to end up doing physical work on construction sites or the like.
I work mainly in retail so hopefully i can continue with that.

I have been reading about lazer hair removal and as i understand it it does not rid you completely of hair and one would have to go back yearly for a follow up.
However Electrolysis will rid one of hair but it will be painfull.
No pain no gain.

Hi Lolli,

One of my key objectives prior to transition was facial hair removal... to me it is one essental to help passing.

Shaving only temporarily relieves the problem of facial hair and the dreaded 5 o'clock shadow comes regularly every day.

I started electrolysis 6 months prior to transitioning and got my chin and jaw virtually clear. My cheeks and side of face where not to bad  and could also be hidden by long hair. The upper lip took the longest.

Just over two years later I was clear and have never shaved since 2002.

Why Electrolysis....well I had mainly ginger (red) facial hair and that with the low number of black hairs was not a good candidate for Laser.

My only regret was NOT STARTING earlier and getting completely clear before transition.

If you want permenent hair removal, Electrolysis is the tried and tested option, but are not cheap and at times painful

Wish i had done it when first i worked, just think how much i would of saved on razors and gel?

I want to start electrolysis and my spouse is against it.  She says it will make me look "too" feminine!  GAH!!  She still doesn't get that THAT"S the POINT ! !  !  Funny thing is that she didn't say that to my starting HRT. 

She's probably (and justifiably I suppose) concerned about the cost.  Most of my beard is going grey and I don't think laser will be cost effective either.  Oh Well!

is it possible to start hrt first then.
I would have to see a doctor would i not?

Shaving is something i do as i cycle but female friends have asked me not to shave as its too girly!!!!

Everyone's journey is different, Lolli.  And yes, you need to see a doctor about hormones.  Two, actually, a therapist and an endocrinologist.  I started therapy in December of '05 and started hormones three weeks ago.

Since I haven't started electolysis I still shave almost my entire body.  I'm hardly out at all outside my home so the afternoon stubble isn't an issue yet.  But it will be.  I expect that facial hair will be my biggest impediment to transitioning (after my spouse!).

Most of the opinions that I've read say that electrolysis should be the first thing to start.  I just haven't been able to work it out so it happened that way.

I agree with Helen about posting an Introduction.  It really is the best place to announce yourself to the community.  It can be kinda scary, telling about yourself and your journey, but I found that when I actually made myself write down all those thoughts, it helped solidify my understanding of myself and enabled me to better explain who I am to others.

Most of the folks here use the gender button to identify our true nature.  If you feel you are a woman (regardless of what body you were born in) choose female.  Same applies to male.  For some of us, neither role reflects the true nature of ourselves.  Most of us who identify as Androgyne have chosen not to use the gender button because either choice is incorrect.

Lolli...sorry about the thread drift...yes, facial hair is a problem for most of us...why can't our beards recede like the rest of our hairline??  For me, the worst place is my upper lip, and I have heard that from others too.  If I decide to begin permanent hair removal, I believe I will start there.

You can use the gender markers as you see fit.  There are no site rules on their use.  For example a TS would use the markers to indicate their true gender which would probably be different from CD's and other other members of the T community, and there are some who don't feel there is a need to use them.
