Silent Hill was great. I just saw the Wicker Man a couple days ago... weird. I liked the concept and everything, but toward the ending it became just a bit too... hokey. I don't know. It didn't scare me in the slightest. But, then again, little does anymore.

I love scary movies!  And scary games, so you know I loved Silent Hill.

But one movie that scares me in a different, more real way is Fire in the Sky.  I saw that as a kid, and hoo boy, that thing traumatized me.  I was already scared of the subject matter as it was, but then seeing that...  Jeez.  Even knowing how they filmed the final fifteen minutes, I still get the chills just thinking about it.

Has anyone seen it?

Wicker Man not really a make-you-jump scare as it is a horrific scare. Sort of like the Shining. Not really a make-you-jump movie. There are very few pure make-you-jump scary movies. The idea of sort of being on your own in this weird pagan society, and in the end being burned and sacrificed, while they all sing praises, made me shudder at the thought. Most modern movies do not have unhappy endings. Something tells me Nicholas Cage's version wont show as much pagan, sexual content, nor sad of ending for the remake. I think Hollywood will leave it out this next time, instead becoming a special effects movie.

Maggie -  Haven't seen Fire in the Sky, but just added it to my Netflix Que to order next, sounds interesting.

Buffy - Yes I agree too. One time I was unpacking my stuff and a scorpian fell out. Scared me more than anything. Or when I woke up with a huge spider on my eye. Not fun.

Or getting into, or almost getting into accidents.

I hope you enjoy it!  It is a good movie (and it has Robert Patrick!), but when I first saw it.. leaving the theater, it was broad daylight and I was STILL terrified.

Just watched Fire in the Sky

Yes I like the scenes with the aliens. Probably one of the more realistic scenes I have seen showing they might not be that friendly. I am glad they didnt use any of the story that the real Travis Walton claimed to experience. I read what he said happened and it is lame compared to the hollywood version.

Oh my brother Bart has one photo of him dressed up like michael myers laying under a real gravestone. He took this picture of him which I found on his myspace. Fits the mood of this topic.

I'm glad you liked it!  I just wish the DVD had some of the trailers in the special features section.  When I was little, just seeing the previews for that movie scared me.  All it did was show an x-ray of a human being, and some voice saying "What is man?  Why does it breathe?  Why does it bleed?  Why does it scream?"  and stuff like that.  Hoo boy.

I'm not much of a fan of scary movies. However, being an ardent fan of the game series, I really enjoyed Silent Hill. Although all of the violence against women REALLY turned me off. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but suffice to say it was disconcerting.  :-\

I got one I will watch towards Holloween. Takashi Miike's Imprint, which was banned from Showtime Network before being set to air, because it was too much for them (and they normally dont ban shows).

I thought his Audition was absolutely chilling and this is getting similar reviews.

Hi Kendra;

OMG you have to rent this movie; it is called "the maid" and it is a chinese film regarding the buddhist belief that the gates of hell open in the seventh month, and the hungry ghosts come to seek revenge.  It is extremely scary, and wonderfully done.  I recommend it... :icon_nervious: :icon_nervious:

I hope you are doing much better now from your cold. :)  Take care!

Watched "Silent Hill" on Halloween and was pretty disappointed in the fear factor of that one.  I was surprised because I have played the game before and it totally freaked me out.

Next one in line will be "An American Haunting".  Hope it's scarier than "Silent Hill".....

Alright,
This year I tried renting some of the ones from the prior year, that I had not seen yet. Would I add any on to my all time favorites. If I did Texas Chainsaw the Beginning would be the best one I saw in October. Even having seen quite a few movies in the chainsaw series, this one is my favorite one so far with the best story and action.

An American Haunting not really scary. Reminded me more like Sleepy Hollow, or The Village. It was an ok movie though I wanted the ghosts to be more violent, and more action. It was more of a lesson type story. Not as scary as 13 Ghosts, Poltergeist, or even House on Haunted Hill (1999). No one dies.

Amityville Horror (2005) I definately enjoyed more than the original and movies that followed. Original was a little eirie but not that scary. I think this version had more creepy moments, action, haunting effects, better sound, and even better story. Though I wouldnt vote this as one of my all times favorites, it was a good overall movie.

Feast I was very impressed with this movie, not expecting much (being the product of Project Greenlight). This is a good creature feature along the lines of Alien sort of , yet mixes in some redneck humor almost like Tremors, and somewhat like Army of Darkness. The speed of the monsters and them appearing out of nowhere is what will make you jump in this movie. And them doing stuff you might not expect. This one is a good rental. A mixture of Action, creatures, gore, and some humor.

Masters of Horror: Takashi Miike "Imprint" if you liked Hellraiser or Miike's first movie Audition, this is more of what you will like. I started asking myself at the beginning "Why did they ban this from showtime..." then a few minutes later I said "Ohh....Ohhhhhh ok thats why". Has torture that will make you squirm and images of abortions that I think anyone considering an abortion should be made to watch this first. Nudity, graphic images. The movie does run as a series of flashbacks. And the expression "talk to the hand" will seem a little different after watching this. One of my favorite this year from a director that I have come to like the last 2 years.

Omen 666 It was ok. Basically I felt it just retold the original movie. Nothing new or really different stands out.

In the theater we watched Texas Chainsaw the Beginning. My favorite chainsaw movie of them all. I felt was better than the preceeding remake (which I thought was really good). I felt this kept the action, gore, and horrific murder scenes,  yet added a very good storyline to the movie (which suprised me)(which is something all the others almost entirely lack).

Speaking of Hellraiser earlier. I rewatched some of the movies that were played on cable TV. By far my favorite parts of the series are Hellbound: Hellraiser II especially when they open the door to hell and go there ; and in Hellraiser IV when they tell in the past the toy maker story.

For a movie few know about that is great to see is Dog Soldiers (2002). A scottish twist on Werewolves that is sure to please most fans of Horror. I really liked this movie.

I will add it to my list. Sounds interesting.

A movie I saw a preview for recently was call The Messengers, which looks just as terrifying to me as Silent Hill.  Of course, now I realize I scare easily, so it's all relative. :P

I just saw Saw III too. To me it was more of a thriller. I did however think it had more action then the first two, and I think I like it better than them. More contraptions (I liked the one that openned the one lady's ribcage), ways to die, and twists in the movie. It was also pretty unpredictable, though clues are given throughout the movie. Story seemed more cohesive and explained the earlier 2 movies even.

I also watched Toolbox Murders which is a 2003 movie. Pretty scary as well as bloody.
