Metapors for the 'choice' of transitioning?

Leigh once posted a couple of metaphors for the 'choice' a transsexual has in transitioning/not transitioning:

"It's like choosing to leave the room you're in because you just noticed it's on fire."

"It's like choosing NOT to jump off a high cliff and moving back to safety."

One metaphor I'd like to get away from is the trapped-in-the-body-of-the-opposite-gender one.

Can we come up with other metaphors that illustrate the idea that, once a transsexual accepts him- or herself, choosing NOT to transition is for most of us fraught with danger and not really an option?

It is like being paralyzed from head to toe all your life and one day you decide to walk,  to run, to talk, to laugh, to live.......

It's like crawling out of a cesspool and taking a nice long shower.

It's like realizing there's finally a cure for a flesh-eating cancer you have.

It's like noticing that you have a brake pedal for the first time.... and you can use it to prevent running into that brick wall too!

You choose to quit banging your head against the wall.

It is stepping out of the way of an oncoming train.

It is getting out of the shark infested waters.

Time to quit feeding the tigers with your bare hands.

It's like moving into an earthquake zone from a hurricaine zone.

QuoteWoman suits just fine thank you.

I'm going with Steph on this but I always said it was like going from darkness to light and beauty.

It's like hearing colors and seeing music without the use of chemicals.

It's like having your heart released from a cage.

It's like knowing you live in a beautiful sea and you will not drown.

I hope I didn't didn't unconsciously steal from anyone.

I love what Steph had to say. I just want to be a woman. Accepted or not, I just want my inner beauty to shine through for the first time in my life.

Yep, these are all good.

It is going from a living hell to heaven on earth, dysphoria to euphoria.

It is when you lift your face to the sky, and spread your arms wide open, and feel the rain on face from the heavens.

Guess i'm scared to find out, the end result may not make me happier or worse it could be worse as opposed to anticipating it to be great and then?  tragic events could ensue as those ghosts and devils always seem to be near!

We are all like books.  There's a cover and the pages in between.  What makes a book is what's on the pages, not the cover.  I was born with the wrong cover.  All I want is to make the cover match what's on the pages.
When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

It's like leaving a witness protection program that you were born into - where you had to lie, cheat and deceive everyone you knew and loved just to be safe even though it never removed the abject fear - and finally letting everyone know who you REALLY are and letting the fear go.
