I was born in South Carolina when my father was stationed there, back in the Dark Ages. I'm still ticked that they won't change birth certificates.

For real? I didn't know that... SC won't change birth certificates? No way!

Well, they will amend it with some sort of little card stapled to the original. But that's not quite the same, is it? So I don't see the point of trying to change my BC if it's only an amendment.

I take it you were born in SC too?

Yep born and raised. So would I have to get a residency change if I wanted to get my name changed without having my "old name" stapled to it?

I called Ohio and found out that I can change the name in the form of an attachment but I cannot change the gender.

Nice see someone in South Carolina, I have family down there, some been wanting me move down there as well, but have supports up here and not sure how well the community is taken down there.  I do hope eventualy move there or North carolina though.  and I was born in North Carolina, no idea the rules there yet for birth certificate
Every day we pass people, do we see them or the mask they wear?
If you live under a mask long enough, does it eventually break or wear down?  Does it become part you?  Maybe alone, they are truly themselves?  Or maybe they have forgotten or buried themselves so long, they forget they are not a mask?

Well just for a heads up... South Carolina is the "bible belt." You won't find too much support! But it's great here other than that!

I assume that legal name change is free and clear--that is, once you change your name, it's yours to use in all situations. That's the way it seems to work in all fifty states. But birth certificate policies definitely vary. If my recollection is correct, SC will not change a name on a BC--don't quote me on that--and I know they will not change a gender marker. All they'll do is attach an amendment card.

But the good news is that few situations call for a birth certificate. Most require a driver's license, Social Security card, or maybe a passport. And you can get all of those changed.

My name change cost me a total of $400.00 that included filing fees, publication fees and official copies.

I had to show the judge my birth certificate it's a federal regulation, thanks to former president bush

Caleb

Wow that's a lot of money just for that.

Nods, thats why I haven;t been able change my name legally yet, been saving money for it.  And yeh thats what I figure for South Carolina, with support.  I'd like to move down there one day, but for now am where I need to be.
