Haven't been to my dentist in... many years now. I've had other work done by my old dentist out of town, but not the local one. I've got a filling today that I've been putting off, especially because i'm between insurance right now as we switch to temporary cobra (note to self: trying to do a name change in the middle of that would have been a bad idea anyway...)

I was telling mom that I hope they don't discriminate against me/->-bleeped-<- my teeth up, like someone else here reported their dentist doing....

Mom's advice to me was "don't wear any makeup or earrings and just wear a t-shirt and they won't be able to tell."

Yeah... mom... if it weren't for the makeup and earrings that I don't wear, nobody would notice my B cup breasts and face.

Please don't be mad at her, lol. From the vibe I'm getting...Even though it may have sounded off wrong...I think she was only trying to help in her own weird way! ^_^;

She likely needs more time to get the full picture but what I would tell you is, just be yourself; Not everybody is out to get you and if you stay calm and collective...This will be like stealing candy from a baby ---- Well sort of... >_>

I guess it would depend on how the dentist views Transpeople.  But most are just wanting your/insurance money.

As for the makeup or earrings.  That would depend on you.  I were makeup daily and I usually have at least studs in.  As for the style of dress, how ever you feel the day of the appointment.

If they screw up your teeth, sue them.  If they refuse to accept you as a patient, sue them ( refusal of service ).

Don't let the possibility of them not being comfortable around you, stop you from going.  If we let such fear stop us, they win.

It was completely non eventful. His work is awesome. I guess I just one person's terrible experience caught in my mind and was afraid.

I almost never wear makeup, and only sometimes wear earrings. I wore neither and wore the top that makes my boobs look the biggest.

in situations like this I generally start off by saying I am partway through sexchange so their work is essential to my success in passing...it clarifies the situation and gets them on my side...

Well, I need a lot of things medically, but I don't think a hole in my tooth keeps me from being a woman.

The dental assistant was talking to me about name change and I explained it briefly

"...I mean, do you keep the same social when you change everything?"
"Yeah, you can't dodge debt with it."
"Psssh, if you could, I'd do it too!" [name change, I think; not sex change.]
"If I were trying to dodge debt, I'm doing it wrong, this has cost me over $17,000 so far."
