I'm with the shape shifters on this one, because you then you could go anywhere and not just this planet.  In addition I would ensure that the body can endure for millenium.

Kind regards

Being a shape shifter is somewhat of a given... But what kind of shapes would you shift to? ...DUH

Archaeopteryx.

Then a humpback whale.

Then a giraffe.

In the movie "Sea-Creature", mermaids were really sexy and they bred in a weird way.  The leader of the mermaids would let herself get captured then she would help the man who captured her impregnate the wife and that's how they breed.  It was really strange...

And then the leader of the mermaid would somehow, through suggestions probably, lead the person who captured her back to where she was captured and she would transform into this really creepy looking monster and proceed to slaughter everyone on board the ship, minus the pregnant lady, and feed her brood.

I wouldn't do that to a sexy muscular Sri Lankan pearl diver though.  He dives under the waves for wild aquatic lovemaking with the dolphins dancing around us....

whoah now, whoah now, admittedly it's been some time lol, but the Andromeda strain was extraterrestrial; Michael Crichton was utilizing the panspermia hypothesis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panspermia) as a plot point

Actually, The Andromeda Strain was a strain of bacteria that had been on a space shuttle that had been shot into orbit.  It was left in space and it evolved there to became the disease that caused havoc in that small town.  Crichton has a line in the book where it says that, but it's only one line.

and yeah @Perlita, you're 100% right about alarmism :-)  last I checked we don't live in a nuclear wasteland ;-)

like I said it's been years lol, but I thought it was sent up to collect dust samples?  one of the dust samples contained an extraterrestrial spaceborn virus though, as in the panspermia hypothesis

I would have... lots of muscles!  Probably dark brown or purple skin... an extra pair of arms, big webbed ears, naturally green or pink hair... and of course, a big awesome penis.  I'm thinking wings too, but would that be too many limbs for the upper part of my body?  Also, a tail!  Maybe some interesting, otherworldly looking eyeballs.  I'm torn between no body hair or lots of furry body hair.  Hair that felt like a chinchilla's fur.  I don't know for sure, all I know is that I'd look awesome!  Totes.

A lot of hysteria and fear comes from misinformantion produced by sensaconlistic  media eager to sell papers, magazines of TV time. Take the example of the "carbon nanotubes" which currently are the worhorse of the nano materias industry. There is a lot of people saying how dangerous they are. I said remeber that carbon nanotubes naturally occour in sooth, we evolved breahing this stuff. The real danger to us is ignornace and intlerance. At the national level loosing industial capacity is a big big worry

Carbon nano tubes are innocuous, at least as far as we can tell.  However, zinc, gold, and other metals that are also part of nano materials act very differently when the particles are molecular in size rather than in conventional manufacturing.  These are not naturally occurring.   These molecular sized particles can enter cellular walls and cross the blood-brain barrier.  We have no scientific information of the long term effects of exposure to nano-materials.

We also have no choice.

The nano-materials business is a billion dollar business and growing.  It's already here.  And it's already in you.

For example, if you have used a sunscreen with an SPF greater than 30 you have applied nano-manufactured zinc directly to your skin.  That is the reason that you can get high SPF sunscreen.

I'm not alarmist nor pessimistic.  I think that the promise of nano manufacturing and nano-tech IS a magic wand.  I just hope that we can use it wisely and well.
