Motivation to lose weight?

As I mentioned in my introduction, I have gained quite a bit of weight over the years. I was using food as another tool to feel good. However, something very strange happened to me today. I got very, very hungry on a long drive, and despite having a dozen donuts stacked next to me, I had absolutely no compulsion to eat one. Not a bit. Stopped for dinner and had a grilled chicken sandwich with water. Anybody who knows me knows that I have always been a coca-cola fiend and never pass up a cheeseburger. Yet again, just didn't feel like it. It is almost as if now that I know why I was overweight, it has lost at least some of its power over me. I also know that if I am to transition, I want to be skinny. Powerful motivation it would seem.

Time will tell if it lasts, but I hope it does. I would love to get back to my high school weight when I was on the cross-country team. Even today, I still run a couple of miles a day. If I can crank that back up to 5 or so, I know the pounds will come off very quickly. I've done it before and I can do it again.

Once you're off T, you'll lose that irrational compulsion to eat. That's one part about estrogen I kinda miss.

Really? Will I lose weight faster? I always thought women had a harder time losing weight and I feared HRT might give me similar problems.

Generally it's harder for women to lose weight but you might be less hungry all the time and eat less. It also depends where you store the weight. If you don't end up gaining much in the hips and behind, it's not hard to lose. You'll also probably still have some muscle (if you do now) for awhile which will help.
The ladies will have more insight probably.

Weights a bummer man.....lol

I go to the gym two – three times a week....I play club level tennis.... and hike, cycle MTB's, ski and am fairly okayish with the idea of being referred to as active...*s->-bleeped-<-s*

But ma job/employment is sedentary PC facing...(yuck).....we're pre-historic primates physically and were never evolved to be sitting creatures!!

So you have to actively resist sitting, get out and get active....at least once a day for an hour or so.....

Age is also a killer....each decade you move along your metabolism slows and spirals.... my other half's teen's kids consume sugary crap, chocolate, snacks (despite our protest) and quality meals too and are pin-thin skinny...cause there bodies burn and diss energy fast...

I've hit ma 50's tis a crappy time.... so am trying out metabolism enhancers such as H&B's KLB6....and Ginseng.... as well as eating small 3-5 times a day, most of the time...

A killer-3 course-size meal at 7pm followed by couch and bed 7 days a week.... well....the result is not going to be pretty or fixed by magic pants I can assure you!

I'm fitter than my toy-boy too...(he's six years my junior).... so by motivating him...I keep maself trim....

Genetics once more are key...so if your folks are larger than average that's where you're headed naturally...ain't life a bitch?

Fad diets don't work and are bad for you.... yo-yo weight loss/gains damage your health....your body resist change if pushed too fast...

So the key is slowly, slowly catchy-monkey....lol

Up the exercise steadily....drop the calories gently....then 3-6 months on things really start to happen....but the task is endless if you wish to keep trim, slim and sassy!

So stick with it.....good luck...

My big motivation was that it was required to have surgeries. I joined  Weight Watchers and lost 80 pound s and achieved my lifetime goal in 2008. Then I stopped going and gained 25 pounds, after which I rejoined WW in May and lost ten pounds. It is harder since the surgery motivation is absent.

With less muscle mass than men it is much harder for women to lose weight and/or maintain ideal weight.

TIP: I found a new product which helps me feel full: Kashi Go Lean (Original cereal not crunch) also unsweetened Almond Milk (40 calories) Blueberries and/or 1/2 Banana. Only about 250 calories or 4 WW points and the high fiber keeps me full for hours. I eat it in the morning and before I go to bed. I used to have a major problem "starving"myself all day then snacking after I went to bed.

Also 94% fat free popcorn is a great snack.

My motivation is my health.  Tomorrow morning I'm going to start going to the gym because my joints are almost constantly sore lately.  I'm not even in the "overweight" category, but I'm almost there and the extra weight's hurting me so my motivation is so I don't have any more pain or as much pain.

I'm a fan of Fiber One snack bars (the ones I get have a little more calories than the plainer ones because I like the chocolate) and it's generally my dinner when I've got night classes because it keeps full during the classes.  I also snack on popcorn, like stealth2010 suggested.

Just getting rid of soda will help you lose weight.

I have a very physical job , and I'm thankful for that. I used to weigh perhaps 60 pounds more in high school and I slogged that off and now I'm a toothpick. If anything the best thing you can do is stay away from soda, or drinks with a lot of sugar, :o

Health is a great motivator.  Also.with all the surgeries I had to look not only feminine but pretty and sexy is down the drain if I become obese again. Appearance wise, I look pretty good  now being 15 pounds over ideal weight. Anything more than that and the nice facial bone structure that I have doesn't stand out. I even feel I look less feminine when I look in the mirror and that is a big motivator.

Getting ready to go for my daily 2mile walk...

I'm really really overweight (like a size 3x) and I can't seem to lose weight for anything.  I spent six months last summer busting my butt at the gym and eating healthy/tracking everything I ate.  Spent a fortune...guess how much I lost?  5 pounds.

Then I got sick with bronchitis and stayed sick with it for months and after all the steroids the doctor kept putting me on to help keep my airways open, and not being able to exercise (even though I was still trying to eat healthy) I gained 20 pounds.  Turned out I was having an allergic reaction to my blood pressure pills, which made it easy for the bronchitis to flourish.

But now I just can't find the motivation to try again.  Soooooo frustrating to work so hard and spend so much money and now right back at square 1.

I am hoping once I get on T, I'll be able to build some decent muscle mass and maybe that will help.
