Just got my letter through for my first app at Nottingham Gender Clinic. Its for the 7th Sept so just four weeks to work myself up into total panic. Hoping they'll take into account the three sessions i've already had with a Gender Specialist but I feel like I'm jumping into the unknown again

What do you expect to happen at the clinic?  Will you be given a prescription for T?

For me all it took was a letter from my therapist and answering a 4 page multiple choice test in order to start on that fantastic hormone.

I've heard good things about Nottingham GIC so I hope that it will go well for you.  :)

I have my second appointment with CX GIC on september the 3rd I think and I was told at my first app that I might be prescribed T then.

Oh god i wish. They're fairly emphatic about undrlining the fact that they stick to their clinical protocol which states that in the case of FTM you must do two years of RLE before being considered for hormones. Whether they'll take my past into consideration, or the fact that my passport has said male since January i dont know or whether they'll want things to start from a date they set. I guess i'm at the stage now where i just need to know i'm getting somewhere so i can just about cope with a two year RLE. Hope you get your T on the 3rd tho Nathan

You need 2 years RLE??? I'm just under a year RLE and Dr Lorimer didn't mention it, he said I was a straight forward case and might be able to get T on my next appointment.

Yep they definitely state that "you will be required to complete a two year RLE before male hormones will be offered". They say its cos of  some of the irreversible aspects of T. Can't say i'm looking forward to two more years without T but if thats what it takes....

have you got that right? 2 years? Sounds like you need a lawyer to get a Human Rights lawsuit against CX to me.
have a look at http://ftm.org.uk/node/9   and then same node/10

I must admit that the wait for FtMs seems strange as I know for a fact that a fat slob of a MtF with zero femaleness who only started crossdressing last year is having surgery via CX in next few days!   So if they really make FtMs wait a year or more to start T there is some deeper reason that we need to know about.

Whatever can the wait be for?  Is it some remnant of Victorian thinking on the lines of you FtMs are women and maybe this idea of wanting to change sex is just some bit of nonsense brought on by your periods?
I mean we know from Thomas Beatty that T doesn't kill all childbearing even if the new beard and balding is permanent.
It will be interesting to know why the wait.

I know these posts are a few months old, but I thought I put somethign here anyway.

No, you dont have to do 2years RLE before T. Im being seen at the Nottingham clinic too, they let me start T  after seeing me 4 times, which is about right they say. But it is true that they wont put you forward for any surgery untill youve done your 2 years, and this two years starts from the date you started T. Which I think is ridiculous.
Unfortunately (and I am very sorry about this, I can tell you how much it sucks) they wont take your past into consideration. Theyve refused to acknowledged the fact that Id been living my life as me for a few years before theyd first even seen me, this included the 15month wait they had me on their waiting. (Thankfully theyve changed this long waiting list crap! :p)

I was referred to them in 2007, but only now have they just said they will put me forward for surgery (and the reason for this is not that I wasnt ready etc, there have been alot of messups! :( ) but because theyve made me wait so long, I am now warned, not to "get my hopes up" as the Nottingham pct are being very strict with funding etc so may not fund my surgery.

I am looking into moving to charing cross at the moment, as Ive readthey refer you for chest surgery after being on T 6months, so I should definitely have a shorter wait with them. Sorry this has goenoff topid, this is one of my first few points and just ended up rambling! :p
Ive been at the Nottingham clinic for awhile, so if there is anything youd like to ask, feel free :)

Thanks for the update. Ive just had a letter saying they want my bloods done before my next appointment in January and that theyre going to discuss hormones with me at that appointment so i'm kind of hoping that it means i ll be getting T soon

Yeah, that is definitely a great sign!! :D
Im happy or you!
If it goes how it did for me, given a clean bill of health, theyll ask your GP to prescribe T for you.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes mate :)

Well my appointment for my bloods is on Tuesday and my appointment at Nottingham is on January 4th as long as we dont get any more snow! They did say earlier tho that surgery would be about two years down the line but it gives me time to lose weight etc

they HAVE to fund surgery - court cases have established that surgery is the recognised cure for a recognised medical condition.
Have a look online for North West Authority 1999 case.
Remember that phrase and case for if you get any crap from them and need to find a lawyer.
In my office we are dealing with a case where a NHS is trying to deny treatment but the success rate for it is 80% so we have instructed our lawfirm to fight the case on the 'recognised cure for recognised medical condition' basis.
