So I have been 3.8 years on hormones then they tell me to quit cold turkey (temporarily).

Few things, A) My sweat now stinks B) Hot flashes C) night Sweats D) Faster metabolism E) Mood Swings

Have all occured...

My main thing is metabolism.. how about yours?  I feel like right now I can eat an entire Moose to myself...

I had (one) night sweat and mood swings but not much exciting happened to me. my metabolism is as crap (hyperactive) as ever.

I was required to stop two weeks prior to surgery; I didn't suffer any ill effects.

I'm not feeling anything either.  I'm not sure if it's due to the fact that I've been on them for so long--13 or 14 years--or that I started to eat a lot of soy products about three weeks before stopping and continue to do so.  Oh well, we'll see as the days go on.

Actually I do feel more tired than I used to--now that's kinda weird.

Hi Sara,

I had to be off my HRT for six weeks before and three weeks after. I had really awful hot flushes and night sweats. They got so bad after surgery that after two weeks (I was changing my bed sheets every day) I phoned the hospital and pleaded with them to go back on my HRT. they said I could but keep mobile as much as possible (which I did). I'm now back to normal thank goodness but took until about five weeks post op.

Went of E two weeks before surgery and was going well till just before I went back on when I started to get a bit emotional.  Other than that all fine.

I didn't experience any of that until about a week after surgery. I stopped three weeks prior, but was allowed to keep on spiro until the day before. The hot flashes mostly came at night, and lasted until a week or so after I resumed E again. It was not fun.

I've been on HRT since 1989.....

Came off pre IV for dental surgery... back in June.... and had minimal sweats, 2-3 nights.... but short-term memory loss a tad concerning I lost keys and a bank card!

Was more emotionally wobbly...but overall not too bad...

As I have two procedures to get through here in Scottsdale...I've been off E now for three weeks and will not get back on till sometime past the 14th....I'd imagine nearer last week of Sept!!

Have felt more blue this time around... though the flushes are not so bad....but am experiencing some bloom and hair loss....so and counting the days to when I'm back on my fav legal drug!!

It just occurred to me, I had dental surgery about six years ago and was never told to go off my meds.  Interesting, but I wasn't put under, maybe that's why.

I'm still not felling anything--it's been a week.  We'll see what the next two bring.

I had 26 teeth ground down over two days... on full IV sedation.... so was immobile for hours...

And had to rest out... and gawd it was challenging pain wise.... and though it wasn't on the dentist's orders as such, I self opted to be safe than sorry...

And it was only a case of being of them for a few weeks....

but like all how we react is uniquely.... and good luck ma dear with your procedures.... and get as fit as you can my top tip... I did two hours in the hotel gym the evening pre my early surgery.... gald i did!

Just one of the many grim aspects of SRS we have to grin and bear, ma dear....

But as the days drag on.... eventually you get through it all....

I'm currently in a hot hotel room, feeing pretty grim, with a bag of frozen peas on ma bruised, bloody and battered Mary Jane, with a catheter stuck in me till at least next Monday!!

And I'm reliably informed it will be 6 weeks minimum before I get back to any sense of normal.... and could take up to 3 months for all the swelling to subside...

So mentally for me, this 2nd stage labiaplasty is proving just as tough as the original SRS 18 years ago...but this time around I'm not an uber fit 30 year old...I'm 52, so things take far longer to get better...

oh..at some point we really need to stop estrogen pills? u mean stop for a couple of month right?

3 years on hormons...it must be great...

@ clairez...

I was told by a good nursing mate in the UK steroids are best taken in the mornings. not at night... this works for me...

And also it probably does do you some good to come off them (hrt) every now and then... as similarly people who have long-term arthritis tend to have to switch treatments as over time your body adapts to the drugs yer on and just simply dumps them more efficiently...

So switching every-now-and-then brands for us TG folk could prove beneficial too....but there are no one rule for all regimes...we all be guinea-pigs to some extent...

I noticed after a 3 week break or so in June, that when I went back on to HRT, they seemed to affect me more powerfully for a week or two...as if the receptors in ma cells went ergh hello – and the lights came on again - if you catch ma drift!

But a steady, sensible dosage at a regular time of day will probably bring best benefits...

@ Sara..

A Mr. Royle did my original surgery in 1992 in the UK, Dr Meltzer did my revision and labiaplasty two days ago (tues) in the US (where I am now)... and due to more internal scar tissue than expected.... from the procedure 18 years ago...it means I'm having a tough time now... with a more complex, tricky recovery than I was expecting...

So I just have to lie here and tough it out...

But the Susan org forum's are a good place to keep distracted, from the gnawing discomfort....so thank god I have my laptop and wi/fi in the room....

And only 50 mins to go till my next dose of pain-killers!!

Good luck to you girly for next week btw up there in Montreal...

Auntie Cruella!  Can they give you anything better for the pain?  Being in lots of pain sucks.  I've had to watch my spouse be in lots of pain (and emergency hospital trips as a result) and my understanding is that you'll recover sooner the less pain you're in (less stress  = quicker healing).

Hope you feel better real soon! - Next time you're in Sacramento wave as you fly by :)

Love and Hugs,
Rayalisse.
Cheers!

Well its gone 6pm....so I've just downed another pill....Raya.... and big thanks for your kind wishes...its defo a lift for me!

The pain is not acute, but uncomfortable... and gets worse as the evening draws in....but then it's always like this no matter what it is surgery wise you undertake...your body lulls at night... pre sleeps....

And it's not wise to over-dose the pain meds....but apart from yer mouth yer genitals are highly nerve, blood vessel populated.... so it's a no-brainer that it'll be tough....

At least I slept a bit better last night...but the dreams were not nice....

And nope I'm on my own now.... as such unless there's an emergency problemo....as the Meltzer clinic is only open Mon-Thurs....so closed for the weekend.

However I have a wonderful option on-board Michele from Nip & Tuck Nurses who'll be in again tomorrow morn to perk me up, she's a lovely lady and it's a great option if you be solo, like I am at the mo....she's a full RN so I can trust in her judgement....

Infection now is my greatest concern, so I have to be very careful with my cleanliness care....as this 2nd stage procedure means your stitched massively.... sutured up to the hilt....

But hopefully when ma catheter comes out on Mon, things should really start improving for me.... with one in its like cystitis...you feel the need to pee constantly...which is a real drag....

As to Sacramento, when I lift off from PHX on the 28th I'll see those gorgeous mountains again as I head home for London....

So will wave for you, for sure... as they say here I'm go with that....lol

That's wise words Dee....

And get yourself in best pre-op shape, eat well, exercise well... and be in tip-top form for when you go in 2 months time...so that you're in best shape to manage the difficulty....when it comes.... as it will...

But the heavy days quickly move along.... just keep yer pecker up as they say......but if you have a buddy to perk you up and give you a hug...it does help you....

My g/f flies out to join me on the 10th next Friday.... so just over a week to go now....so I'm just counting the days....till I have a friendly face in the room with me...

Though virtual buddies in here (susans) can be a source of comfort too....
