So I guess I had a "girls night," wow that sounds so.weird but exciting at the same time.  This past Friday I finally ventured out of my apartment to a girlfriends place as a girl!!!  It was so scary leaving my apartment in girls clothes wondering if I run into a neighbor or something bit everything worked out great!!!

I feel so lucky to have 2 girlfriends here in Arkansas that are so supporting of my transition, I just moved here for a job last November and don't know anyone.  I couldn't believe how normal they treated me just hanging out... I feel happy

Where about in Arkansas, if you don't mind my asking? I'm in Arkansas also.

I've found the average person here to be pretty accommodating toward the transgendered and such. I've only just started to transition openly and haven't run into a lot of the negative reactions that's read about so often. I'm lucky to have a lot of supportive people around me.

It was exciting, but stressful cause I wanted to sound girlier than I did... I felt shy, the girls even commented on how I'm an outgoing guy but shy girl, but its just my voice making me shy

My voice gives me a lot of grief too. So I know what you are going through. I can't get mine to sound right yet. But then that's one of the least of my worries currently, I'm still working on my appearance and undoing some 30+ years of male mannerisms. I'm still at that horrible "guy in a dress" stage.

I live in Marked Tree. It's virtually a wide spot in the road.

I'm really happy that you had a good time  That first time "out" can be really scary but it sounds like your friends are rather confident in you

I'm about to do something similar, but less ambitious, from the sound of it.  I have exactly one pair of jeans, and one top, and some panties and a homemade gaff - short (thinning) hair, no makeup, etc.  I will be going to meet two new "gurlfriends" Wednesday evening - one post-op and one in transition - about my age.  I won't be starting out dressed, I'll bring my clothes and change there, and it will be a very safe environment, but this will be the first time I've dressed to any extent in front of anyone, and I am SO looking forward to spending an evening as ME, with a pair of like-minded girls.  This will be fun, I think!

Congratulations, I look forward to the day that I have the courage to venture outside "en femme", you look great in your pic, I have a LOT of trouble with my voice too, sometimes I sound ok, other times I sound terrible, congrats on having friends that accept you.

you must, obsolutely, completely force yourself into a supermarket of such and get a medium pink lipstick - if nothing else.   The pleasure you will get from buying it and wearing it will be amazing.
Go do it in full male regardless of stares for what might be a few seconds of lining up to pay and paying and walking out the store.
We've all done it and it's as much a rite of passage for a TS as sneaking into a bar for an illegal beer is for most young guys.

Actually, I happen to know my wife has a teeny red lipstick in her drawer that she never uses, so I'll co-opt that for the evening, and yes, I've tried it and LOVE the way it looks on me.  Next week I'm on vacation, and THAT week is reserved for... SHOPPINGGGG!!  Actually, I bought my jeans and top at a local thrift store, in full male, so I kinda know what that's like, lol.  And... as I was waiting for a fitting room to try on the jeans (WHY are they always all in use???), what should be playing over the speakers but Aretha singing "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman..."  - I SWEAR I'm not making that up!  It actually made me laugh, and I felt good.  Yes, girls, shopping IS heaven, even if it's just thrift-store jeans and an Old Navy top.  But next week, I might dare to buy a skirt, some jewelry and a scarf...

Heehee!  I ended up doing exactly that - I could NOT find that teeny red lipstick I thought I would bring, so I sighed, picked myself up, and decided "Well, I guess I need to buy my own, then."  Stopped off at a drugstore on the way there, and got my very first lesson in how much it can COST to be a woman (sigh).  TWENTY DOLLARS?!?!?!?  For a LIPSTICK!?!??  Rite of passage my sweet patootie...  (sigh)

The girls' night was fantastic, BTW.  I brought my stuff, and let them meet boy-me briefly, then went off to the bedroom to change, and then they met Colleen properly for the first time.  One of them (whose house we were at) even lent me a wig for the evening - it wasn't really a great wig, but it was HAIR!!  And I had them take a pic of me, and the SMILE on my face - I was really having a good time.  Of course, there was lots of serious conversation about our journeys, but lots of hearty laughter, too.  I had expected maybe some tears, but no, I didn't feel the least like crying, in contrast to most of the rest of yesterday - it was NOT a good day for me, dysphoria-wise.  But for a couple of hours last evening, I was calm, relaxed, and having the time of my life.

$20! golly. Max Factors are about that but I'm quite happy with my supermarkets own brand. But it was $20 well spent.

Thanks, girls, I really did.  And when I see my therapist next week for the first time, I'll be Colleen also - I emailed her to ask if it was okay, and of course it is.  Yay!  I love discovering me!

As for the lipstick, yeah, the thing was, I was sort of in a hurry to get there, and I didn't have a lot of choice.  Believe me, I will now look around and find out where I'll buy my next lipstick, and it won't cost no $20.
