I have seen stories like this several times and figured it was only a matter of time before a child asks me loud in a very impressive booming voice "Are you a girl or a boy"? Today was the day. lol I was at work waiting for the elevator when a woman came in with a stroller and this boy riding in it. I could tell they were looking for a specific office and was having a difficult time figuring out where to go so I explained she had to use a phone on the wall and to dial the number that is posted by it. She said thanks and then the little boy said his peace.

I felt a bit horrified for a bit because she was already on the phone talking and there were two other people waiting for the elevator. I just smiled at him after he said it the first time. Then he asks (a bit louder) again! I smiled again and turned my head then yet again he asked (he was absolutely determined to find out if I was a boy or a girl)!. And I told him I was a girl then the elevator opened up and I got on.

I found this to be an uncomfortable situation but at the same time (and more so later) found it incredibly innocent and adorable. The boy really didn't know if I was a boy or girl so he asked. My voice is what probably threw him off. I still need to work on that!

Just thought I would share!

Kids do say the darndest things, don't they?   :D  But that's what makes them so cute!  And their natural curiosity will not be denied.  Sounds like you handled it pretty well, but girl, do yourself a favor and be a little more self-confident!  You look fantastic.  I'm sure he had no trouble accepting your answer.

Awww. That's kinda cute. But I can only imagine the terror you must've felt when you were confronted with the question. I would be terrified! I would probably answer with, "Well, what do you think?"

I am very self confident. I am not stealth or anything. It just put me on the spot and I didn't know how to react to it. :) But he did seem satisfied with my answer! lol..i like that kid. he is going to be one smart cookie.

lol XD I'm sorry that it made you feel uncomfortable but it was kinda cute ^_^ You did handle it very nicely though. That kid will DEFINITELY grow up to be an accepting individual, I think ^_^

I guess you now know what to do when a little kid asks you a question.  ANSWER THEM!  :D
When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

I've had that question before, and answered exactly that.

Of course, my voice is male, so that answered that. It was also long before I realized I was trans.

Kids have one heck of an imagination. When I was presenting as male, before hormones. This little girl said "Thanks Ma`am" to me... I had excess facial hair growth lol. I wouldnt worry too much about it. If I am put into that situation, I would just laugh and say, "Well... What do you think I am Huh?" in a silly voice.
