In studying my face and paying attention to the masculine qualities and I noticed that the reason my jaw was so prominent was because of muscle and I wanted to know if hrt would maybe make that decrease.

I had muscle mass decrease when I got on HRT.  So yes I think you should see those muscles reduce.

Don't over examine yourself. We tend to be waaaay over critical of all of our "features", and it can really tear away at you. Try to find the good parts, rather than identify the bad. You may feel that there is just so much more "bad" than "good", but you have to remember that it's a process, and that things will change in time. But for your own good, you should try to be more optimistic and identify the good parts of yourself.

A good majority of us go from one depression to another. We start out with our "misunderstood dysphoria" depression, and move into a post-acceptance "stuck in the mud" depression. And that's not good for us. We've finally recognized who we are and free'd our true selves, we shouldn't fall into another depression because we feel "stuck". Instead, be happy, live free, and make an effort to change.

And yes, HRT should help with that. ^.^

Muscles will decrease on estrogen, and fat will be redistributed and might cover your jaws. It just takes time. Just don't chew chewing gum the whole day through.

hi Tori, how do you do?

I think nowadays, is high tech era even for transgender, so you do not afraid of everything and appearance can always change as long as we have a lot of money....hihi, so FFS is the best way, you can do anything with your face like as you want...hihi :D :D :D
So, keep going our spirit, be a woman, good luck :D :D :D

I think you raise an important point, Tori ... The male jaw tends to be heavier and squarer than the female and it's one of the areas surgeons concentrate on when advising patients on facial feminization surgery. Th surgical approach to jaw reduction involves major bone-work and is very invasive, with risks of nerve damage and permanent numbness ...

BUT ...

It is possible to reduce the muscle mass at the side of the jaw without the need to go under the knife. I don't know if you grind your teeth or not (I do, very badly), but that can cause the jaw muscles to become enlarged and very tense, a bit like a permanently flexed bicep. The cure is to have botox injections in the muscles on either side of the jaw ... this will relax them, preventing further grinding and - as an added bonus for girls like us - significantly thinning and therefore feminizing the line of the jaw.

I have to admit that I have not yet had the procedure. but it is absolutely on my shopping list ...

The question here is whether it's really the jaw muscles or the jaw bones which tori is talking about. The title says muscles.

Exactly ... which is why botox might help

I used to be an avid gum chewer, and not the little dainty stuff. Allot of times my wife would get me huge box of Bazooka Joe bubble gum, as a gift. She knew how much I liked it.

I have a very defined jaw and large muscles to boot. Needless to say I don't chew gum anymore.  :(

I still crave a mouth full of Bazooka Joe. ;)

hairstyles and using makeup can help soften a face a lot.

basically putting pale powder on the jaw and brighter on the cheeks and lips will slim the face a bit.

deep vee or deep round neck tops will also help slim the jaw.

a long thin necklace will also help the slimming impression.

So - are you a girl who likes make up and like to wear women's tops?

Tops sure, make up not so much, but I could learn.

I've had the botox injections into the masseter muscle along the jawline, about 2-3 years ago. It did hurt and swell the first few days, then it did shrink down. I do believe that it can be effective, and though not a permanent solution, it does last for months. You will notice a reduction in chewing strength, but it's not a big deal.

I did see a nice reduction in the apparent width of my jawline.

Just make sure that your doctor doesn't go too heavy with the amount he or she uses. If you are thin in the face otherwise, it will hollow out your cheeks. This may not be advantageous to your overall appearance. For this reason, I've held off having more shots. I may consider doing this again in the future, however, as finances allow.

This is really interesting to know ... I actually want the injections for non-cosmetic reasons too, because my tooth grinding leaves my jaw muscles aching painfully, very tense and also swollen ... so if I get the jabs it's win-win!

You're like me- a tooth grinder. I went through a period of time where I reminded myself to relax my jaw, even to the point of leaving my mouth slightly open. There are mouth pieces you can also wear at night when you sleep to eliminate this issue. Tensing and grinding your teeth does make the jawline more pronounced.

Does chewing gum and grinding your teeth really make your jaw more muscular? I'm a constant tooth-grinder and my cheeks still have some feminine facial fat. Anyone got any scientific articles on this?
  •

kyril

Meep - It builds the muscle, as any exercise builds any muscle involved. It doesn't reduce the fat. (There's no such thing as spot fat reduction - building a muscle in an area doesn't change the amount of fat deposited there)

Ahh, thanks for the clarification ;D.

whenever i see GP racing mentioned I always think of Mr Superjaw - David Coulthard - now he really does have a jaw!

If your jaw is less that this you should pass OK.
