i went for nose job on sunday and woke from it with big splint and lots of strips covering the bruises and swellings...then surgeon told me he has only done part of it and i will have to have another op to slim the nostrils when the swelling have sudsided enough for him to correctly gauge how much to cut.  i have to have splint on for 6 full days.
i can't fault any part of my care or the staff or the buildings and equipment but doing a 2 op nose job shows why the NHS costs are so high.

Heal well and heal quickly.

It shall all be over soon.

awesome awesome!!!! How was the pain factor? with just having that done it would be interesting to see how you felt during it... did you feel worn out from it all so far?
I'm getting mine done next year and I haven't really done any research on it at all.

Absolutely no pain whatsoever apart from putting the cannular in my hand - these are always painful but this time it was seriously so.

Interestingly when I woke up and nurse did blood pressure the pressure cuff was so tight that it made blood squirt out around the cannular and really stung and I've never had that before so I made sure to have it on opposite arm for subsequent tests.

Its a really tiring operation as the blocked nostrils mean trying to sleep with mouth open but every few minutes I was waking with dry sore mouth so eventually I gave it up and watched telly all night.

48 hours on one side of my throat is sore as I swallow so maybe this is due to all the mouth breathing or possibly the big plastic breathing tube was in the surgeons way and had to be shoved to one side to allow him to get at my septum?

Serious big dark watery swellings up under my eyes same as I got 2 years ago when I had hair transplants with the slice and graft technique and these will take a full ten days to subside.

Splint and tape covers a lot of face and I feel so dirty and itchy so roll on Friday afternoon - and must remember to take some wipes to clean up if surgeon decides I don't need lots more taping up when the splint comes off.

I'm sorry but I don't understand at all.  I had mine done last year and had it completely reworked, from correcting a deviated septum to rhinoplasty.  We talked about my goals, what was medically necessary, and even sketched out on the computer just what it should look like.  And the doc did a good job.  So why the two steps?

Dunno.  It surprised and annoyed me.  But my chin job will also be a two op procedure.

I don't like to believe it but my friends who say it is a rip-off by surgeons to get more money may be right. 

So is it that or are they just being cautious in the interests of doing the best for me?   I just don't know.

I seriously think your doctor is not only ripping you off but not showing any concern about the amount of times you will have to go under general anesthesia.  I assume this first stage was done under general?  If not, well disregard my caution. 
Every time there is a risk of which I am sure you are aware, that is why we usually have as many corrections done at the one time.

When I had my nose op I also had my nostrils thinned and a bump removed from nose ridge, it was all done in one procedure.

I hope you are happy with the result and recover well and may not need to have it altered again.   

After mine, I had the hugest black eyes and the worst head cold in the first 3 days of recovery!  Compared to other work I've had done, I hated this one the most, but am happy with result.

maybe his slit and pullback technique to thin down the nose end meant he was unable to correctly decide how much to narrow the nostrils?
But then that's really a weak argument isn't it?

One day one step at a time....it always does get better....though at the time its seems like an age before the worst parts are over....

Yep. my facelift consult two weeks ago I was told similar that do a load part one,  wait a week and then do the delicate around eyes area....but not on the NHS....

It lessens the risk of a bad result....

At least you can smile you got it done on the NHS.....

got the big splint and tape off and wow!   lots slimmer and the big hump has gone. 
surgeon had a learner with him today so I wasn't able to get a full explanation of the 2 stage but he said that it was due to my nose having collapsed rims of nostrils ?  I say this is inherited from mother's side. 
Anyway he says he will let things heal and then do incisions up outside of nostrils to slim and trim them.

full week on and the septum is still quite sore and the entire end of nose is still swollen.  Surgeon said it will slim down but it has an awful lot of slimming to do to get back to where it was before.
I have a web of skin almost 1/8 inch wide in top of left nostril which seems odd.
I see surgeon again this Friday.
eye bruises have subsided and fading to yellow and long bruise on side of right cheek.

this extra appointmnet and the nostril surgery and perhaps fixing the web of skin seems totally different to nost jobs done elsewhere.   Curious.

Ten full days and the face swellings and bruises have disappeared mostly with just a small dark one on right cheekbone and small yellow area on right jaw left to fade.

Still got tape over nose and lots of stitches inside that are itching and really annoying.  They are black so I don't know if that is dissolvable or not and they will have to be cut and pulled out.

End of nose is still very swollen so I can't get an idea of final result.

I feel to be bunged up as with a cold but nose is not dripping.

I seen surgeon again on Friday and be interesting to know what next.

Been and had surgeon take dressing off and stitches out.
Main bridge is very nicely slimmed down but tip and septum still swollen so he said to see him again in 3 months to decide if the second op is needed.
Looks so good that I came home with a big smile on my face.
All face swellings and bruises have gone so that means its a 14 day procedure for anyone else considering it.

letter came to say turn up on November 11 for the chin and jaw surgery part of my FFS.  Not bad to say that would be exactly 2 full years since I first saw surgeon about it.  Our NHS can work very sowly at times.
But I thought I'd better phone to ask if this surgery was Ok so soon after nose job. 
Big NO! Can't risk damaging new nose as I would have had to have nose tubes inserted during chin surgery.  So now its off again. 
My transition has now stretched over 6 full years despite my age and despite good practice being quicker srs surgery in general and in my town others are getting start to finish in 18 months.
just wish my lawyers would get to work faster.

27 days since nosejob.
the tip still has very hard lumps in each nostril maybe scabs or just internal swellings that are taking time to dissolve away.
septum still sore and the big crosswise stitch still not dissolved out and it looks slightly infected and it is tender but I don't think any need to go see doctor about it or get antibiotics as I do usually heal well.
side view looks good so if and when the tips slims down it will be fine.
haven't yet been to try new glasses as I think it best to wait until shape settles.
