So I was thinking this afternoon, what's the best way to get facial hair removed? My girlfriend just shaves with shave secret, and even though she doesn't grow thick facial hair, there is still shadow that is hard to keep covered with makeup.

I know there's these options.. But which is best? (I know electrolysis is the permanent one, but we're poor at the moment)

-shaving (This is what we're trying to get away from. Her beard is getting thicker and thicker)
-waxing/sugaring
-laser
-electrolysis
-epilating

What methods have you all used? What can she do while we wait to have enough for electrolysis or laser or whichever is the permanent one? And what was that brand of makeup everyone suggests here that covers bristles? She for some reason can't get a really close shave, it's painful for her... By the end of our 3 hour shopping trip, her chin shadow was visible and we had to powder her really heavily.

it really depends on what color her facial hair is and the tone of her skin.  Light skin with dark hair, laser will work good.  The most permanent is electrolysis.  She also might see if she can bleach it.

Shaving does not make the hair thicker.  It appears that way because you are looking a the thicker part of the hair shaft.  She is using the best thing for shaving, Shave Secret.  What I do is to shave with an electric shaver and Williams Electric Shave.  And then use the Shave Secret and four or five blade razor, if I need a close shave.

I use Revlon ColorStay foundation the matches my skin tone exactly.  If she has a blueish-black tint try using a little red lipstick thinly over the area.  And remember to apply any concealer or foundation thinly and then blend, blend and blend.  The secret is to just lightly and to blend the color over the face. 

When someone puts on makeup thickly it stands out like a neon sign.  You really don't need a ton of makeup, just a hint of color.

Less is more.

Janet is spot on, as usual, the red lippy on the face followed by Colour Stay was what I used. It would be worthwhile going to a laser place for an assessment. They seem to be happy to have a look and say yes or no if it will work and then give a quote. At least you will know what sort of money she will need.

Another product is a make up called DermaBlend. It is used by people who have facial scars or heavy discolouration. I don't think it is cheap but maybe worth while looking for. You can probably Google for suppliers.

Another thought is going to a professional make up person for a work over. It may cost a bit but could be very worthwhile. If people like Ru Paul can get such flawless coverage, and he has a heavy beard by all accounts, then there are ways and means.
